It’s 2618 and humans are extinct. Four aliens travel to Earth to visit the museum of humanity. There they find the story of the last heroes of humanity, setting out to find help.

Welcome to Earth is a short science fiction film filmed in the Netherlands. It was made with a large group of both professional and amateur filmmakers. To bring the world to life it was filmed on both unique locations and inside sets build specifically for this film. It contains designs in both props and costumes that are specifically created for this film.

Help us translate the film! Many viewers have expressed they'd enjoy subtitles in languages we don't speak ourselves. Help us translate the captions to more languages by going to: youtube.com/timedtext_cs_panel?c=UCE3C1wy3Lf1RoVPc…

Viewers have described this as a beautifull film with an emotional story. The strong script was one of the driving forces behind the creation of this film. Many crewmembers and castmembers found themselves drawn to the script.

The Open Filmteam is commited to giving everyone in the Netherlands the chance to participate in the creation of films of a professional level. Its productions give unique experiences to both its professional as its amateur participants. openfilmteam.nl/welcome-to-earth/

Though made on a shoe-string budget, we've strived to make this a cinematic film with the depth the story deserves. Due to the professionals in key positions during the creation, the visual style, sound design and music were all of professional quality. Combined with great locations, set design and hand crafted props we hope this is a film both lovers of indy films as people with a more average taste in movies will enjoy.

This films was made possible by the support of several Dutch organisations and funds. Among the contributors were: Fonds Cultuurparticipatie, VSBfonds, Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds and Gigant.

The kindness of the aliens and especially when the guy is struggling to remove his mask and the aliens steps forward and helps him.

It’s poetic how he didn’t know he was the last ambassador, and he probably didn’t know he was the last human
  • “Which one would you like to see?” Clicks on sketchy looking folder with one terabyte titled: “homework”

i have absolutely LOVED this one! worth much more recognition. It's very emotional, a bit retro and a bit different. I have even told it to my family as a story the other night and they have appreciated it.

Realistically, if an arch structure like this still exists on Earth after the extinction of humanity, the most important information it contains is not personnal files, but digitized DNA sequences. In that sense, the ambassador is not the last living human, he is the first man of the new humanity, ready to be reborn with the help of a benevolent alien species.

Hyperspace is primitive...but the instantaneous radio transmission over millions of light years is TOP NOTCH!! LOL

You see acting like this and you realise that the actors in mainstream movies are at the top of their game.

With a low budget and amateur cast this short film was definitely above average. It draws the viewer in with questions of why and how. The conclusion was easily foreseen however. The takeaway is a well known trope of humanity regretting it's actions too late to reverse the conclusion. With more short films like this, the writers and studio have a long but bright road ahead.

Had this not been an Ad, I would have missed out on watching this little gem.

A very engaging film. However the twist was very predictable, it would have been less predictable if he hadn't been trying to get his helmet off the whole time.

I LOVED this one! Great storyline & it had so much story packed into such a short time! Well done!
  • A strategically placed ad by YouTube and an excellent, engaging, and enjoyable short sci-fi film. Definitely left me wanting more - I do hope there'll be a sequel! Thanks for making and sharing this.
  • Excellently written, brilliantly produced on a shoe string budget. Well done!
  • This one really moved me. Heroic people have always been among us with their willingness to sacrifice themselves for the greater good but this was a step above. The portrayed scenario is indeed a possibility if we don't stop destroying our world for the sake of money. Well done and thank you.
