ASTIGMATISM | Optometrist Explains

Published 2020-03-30
Heyo Antonio!

I hope everyone is staying safe in the comfort of their own homes! If you don't know what to do with the spare time that you have, why not learn something new and interesting?

Today we cover the topic of astigmatism.

It is a very tricky concept to grasp, but if you familiarise yourself with the principles that I lay out in this video it should be quite easy to understand.

Stay tuned for more content as I will be working very hard during these times to get as many high quality videos up on this channel as possible.

  • Thank you! I have an astigmatism with a cyl of -5.75, one of the worst my optometrist said he's ever seen, so I've been looking for a video with a better visual of what astigmatism is to better understand 😅

Mine was never corrected in my myopia prescription and I always wondered why I had this double text Vision even just after getting my new prescription glasses, I had always thought that maybe the optician didn't give me the correct prescription

Thank you so much for the explaining. How can I tell if an astigmatism is with or against the rule?

I have astigmatism in both eyes, corrected by +1.50 cyl in both eyes, 165 and 10 degrees. Sph plano on both. Reading + 2,75 I have recently had varifocal/ progressive glasses, but wondered do they give me any extra distance from the top as it varies to the bottom?

Want to talk about weird eyes, I am nearsighted in one eye and farsighted in the other. And, both eyes have mixed astigmatisms. The prescription I wear is the one where my two eyes work best together, but if I cover either eye and just use one eye things are out of focus. Incredibly, because of how the brain works, I actually have 20/20 vision (and depth perception) when my two eyes work together. The weirdest part is I never knew this about my eyes until I needed reading glasses. Until then, my far eye saw far and my near eye saw near so I never knew I had a problem.
