It's implied deep down that Subaru knew he made the wrong choice to accept Echidna's offer - which is what further motivates his desire to be inhumanely perfect in the eyes of his friends (right down to correctly guessing the weather - which mildly surprised Echidna at one point when she and Subaru spoke again at the end of the story). It's gotten to where he feels "I dug myself in too far, might as well go further."

Greed IF is definitely one of the saddest ifs. Subaru has to go through millions of deaths to get through everything by himself, but he never gets his happy ending. Emilia’s broken, Beatrice is depressed, Reinhard is depressed, Garfiel is resentful, Ram is cold and distant, only Roswaal and Echidna are happy.

Echidna: why must love always fade? Me: It is our duty to rekindle it.

So greed if is everyone is alive but everyone except Roswaal and Echidna are depressed.

I feel really bad for satella,literally watched the love of her life get stolen from her by another witch AND see him get tortured More and more.

Seeing satella cry really broke my heart. From art to symbolism. Everything was amazing!! So beautiful

This what if story made me realize how important Minerva did by stopping Subaru on taking that contract.

Seeing Emilia going insane was so sad :(

Re:Zero is the only series that makes me go from, "wow, these first episodes of the arc are so cool, everything is chill, a lot of interesting dialog and interactions between characters" to "How did everything degenerate into this, my boy Subaru only wanted something to eat from the convenience store" while reading it, this happens to me in every arc however this if story makes that feeling even stronger, it pains me a lot to see Subaru in such a state, i mean in the other if routes at least he has a bit of control over what's going on, but here? My respects to slothbaru though, he got the girl and formed a happy family, good for him.

This the most depressing IF out of them all. Subaru kills himself and abuses his RBD power. Death means nothing to him. He doesn’t care about himself.

Subaru can't feel emotions properly in this if heck he has to put on a facade larger then ever

Everybody is safe and will continue to be safe because Subaru gave up. He did not give up and stop, he gave up his freedom and feelings for the sake that everybody is alive and in some distorted way...in peace. Everybody is not happy and Subaru is also not happy. Hell, is Echidna even happy, "Why must love fade?". even as Omega she did not feel any great sensation in being "alive" and sensing things again. Whether she has Subaru to clear all the routes of the world like a player from a VN or becoming Omega....is she really happy? I'm pretty sure nobody is happy. I bet even Rosawal is not happy, he just is delusional that he is. Everybody is safe, everybody will continue to move on in peace, but without being happy.

This is really good! I especially like the part where Subaru is holding his hand out for the butterfly. It can be seen as him accepting Echidna's contract. On the other hand it can be seen as his willingness to die using it as a tool as butterfly's can be seen as symbol for death as well

Reading this if story after finishing the trumphant ending of arc 4 is so nauseating, sad, horrible and nauseating again. He'll eventually gets whatever he would want, but not what he really was after, a future where everyone, including him, could smile genuinely and be a happy ending. Great animatic!
