Manta Rays are a fantastical animal, and due to their alien-looking appearance, they are a clear inspiration for a lot of science fiction.

I’ve had the privilege of swimming with a manta ray along the coast of Western Australia. They’re just gorgeous. You wouldn’t believe how fast they move with just a couple flaps of their wings, so gentle and elegant. It’s one of the best memories I have.
  • @ExtremeMadnessX
Last mass extinction: giant asteroid ; next mass extinction: traditional Chinese medicine. Edit: this comment was not directed against Chinese people or any Asians, it's only against practicing traditional "medicine" that causes harm against endangered species.

Literally every animal that is awesome: exist Humans: I diagnose you with endangerment and poaching
  • @dan240393
Underwater shark bats are awesome. They're also really, really clever. There is at least one recorded instance of a Giant Manta seeking human help to remove a fish hook from its mouth.
