Why I regret spending 9 years playing Destiny (and why it's too late to quit)

After all of the time I've put into Destiny, I can't help but feel like my investments haven't been respected. So I'm gonna let off some steam and say what's been on my mind for the past few years.

Of course I don't want to keep you from trying Destiny 2 out, but before you start making purchases, here's some ranting from somebody who's been there for it all.

Corrections:

Power level is not set to change next season

Season prices should have been included in Deluxe Editions

I may have been too harsh on the story because I didn't really pay attention lol

Chapters:

Intro 00:00

No Friends 00:39

"New Content" 02:53

$$$ 04:34

Useless Story 08:08

Potential 09:59

Progress 11:43

I just want to make it clear that my intention with this video was not to scare people away from trying Destiny 2. I just want to offer my frustrations that have built up over the years, because I don't want people falling in the same trap I did by having the wrong expectations. That being said, there was plenty that I should have said better in this video and a few things that I got completely wrong. For example the power level is not set to increase next season, and I forgot to remove the prices of seasons that were free with the Deluxe editions. And while I may not have addressed the issues that you think are the worst, I voiced my struggles with the game and you can take that for what it's worth. If you are thinking about trying Destiny 2, by all means don't listen to some random guy on YouTube, just give it a go and enjoy it. I just personally feel like my investment hasn't entirely been worth it.

As a Destiny 2 player, you don't complain because the game is bad, you complain because you love the game and want to see it do well and thrive. Which is hard to do when it's breaking every other week.
  • "If having cancer made you have better RNG, Bungie would find the cure in like fifteen minutes." This is probably the most painfully accurate summary of my problems with bugs in D2

"If having cancer gave you better RNG Bungie would find the cure in fifteen minutes" omg that statement had me in stitches. It's so accurate too, the video in general I would say, coming from someone with almost 5k hours between D1 and D2.

It’s not too late. I quit 3 “DLC”s ago. Used the time I’ve had to lift. Became an armored combat fighter (literal knight). And started a hobby that’s turning into a business. I hold those hours i spent in raids and PvP yelling slurs at my friends very close to my heart. But that time has passed.

Before my dad passed he loved playing destiny 1 with all of his friends. He sadly only got to play the beginning of destiny 2. Ill miss hearing him shout during raids.
  • I believe we stick around for 2 reasons. 1. We have invested so much time into it that it's hard to let go. 2. This game has so much potential we are kind of hoping they make it better. I truly believe that under the right management this game can be A+ . Unfortunately bungie does not respect the player base. It's not that they are lazy It's that we are the product. They keep throwing subpar and recycled content at us and we still continue to throw our money at them.

It is never too late to quit. It might seem that way for sure when you start to think about quitting, but remember Guardians, we started out as nothing but little lights and rose to power. Quitting destiny is a grind just like that. You start to level up slowly and real life rewards start to drip feed into your real vault. FIGHT FOREVER GUARDIAN !

Its not that we hate the game, its that we hate what’s being done to the game
  • @eddieozil21
The worst part of the story is that the lore is amazing. The campaign always feels like something you want to rush to get it over with. One thing i will give destiny is that the ost is absolutely amazing.

Thanks for making me hate myself for rewarding a greedy dev's bad behavior. This vid reinforces my decision to stop playing. Brilliant video my guy.

I love this game so hesitated to watch this but the laughs were totally worth it. Keep up the good work, subbed.

I’m glad you talked about this. A lot of people in the community seem to just not care what Bungie does anymore. Last time I saw people push back against Bungie (besides all of Lightfall) was when the solstice event card was added. Now we’ve had 3 more since and no one seems to care. Bungie just recently made the seasons more expensive, yet people are still defending them and trying to act like their spokesperson. I love the game, I really do, but when the DCV was announced I knew Destiny was taking a nosedive. The 30th anniversary and Witch queen DLC had me hoping for a better game, but Lightfall leaves me in the same position as Beyond Light. I just want the game to improve and to finally stop pulling its punches, but with a community that thinks saying “I just want the content I payed for” is controversial, I just don’t know at this point. Again, great work, you listed a lot of the community’s problems.
  • The deluxe editions weren’t just dungeons and extra cosmetics, they were also all the seasons for the year, and for the 80$ one during witch queen it also included the “birthday” dlc.
  • It is never too late. I left D2 during season of hackers after 1700+ hours. I know it is not that much but still. This was one of my best decisions, i have never felt so light and free as a gamer.

On the topic of making friends, of the nine years I've been playing, I've really only met two people who I came back and played more with, and I still remember how we met to this day. The bond brothers strike in d1. The three of us were struggling for hours to get through the boss arena. When we finally got through it, they invited me to a call, and I got roped into their friend group. We had our own little clan long before they were officially introduced into d2. We're still a clan today, but everyone went their own ways. I'll pop on every once and a while and maybe see a couple of them there, but it's been years since the old squad got together and actually did something

My saddest part about destiny 2 was them killing the original base campaign and removing the level system. Yeah they changed the storyline around but it wpuld be fun to boot up year 1 destiny 2 again and spawn into the farm with a whole bunch of level 1s and 2s
  • "If having cancer gave your better RNG bungie would find the cure in 15 mins" my sides are in orbit

You getting the All Alone emote and then immediately exiting the game was hilarious to me, sums up everything you we’re talking about as a solo player in this game.
