I think there is something crucial you miss about Gaara vs Neiji. Neiji potentially can negate the chakra running through the sand. Sand coffin shouldn't work: because Kidomaru put Neiji inside a cocoon, very similar to a coffin, and Neiji countered it by releasing chakra from all his body. In fact Neiji outright told Kidomaru that gentle fist is strong against chakra-based objects. He also frees himself from Kisame's water prison using the same method during Kazekage arc. Gaara sand armor probably gets destroyed in one hit. Neiji also doesn't need to outspeed the sand to get through sand shield as he can just destoy the chakra running through it. Gaara wincon would be attrition. So it would come down to whether Gaara can exhaust Neiji or not.

If Neji and Lee switched fights, Sasuke would have a pseudo gentle fist instead.

Neji vs Kimimaro is probably the most interesting fight here. The biggest argument that makes/breaks the fight is definitely if Neji can fully seal Kimimaro's tenketsu or not. Personally I think he can and I don't think the curse mark can force open the tenketsu like with Naruto. Besides Kurama being a living creature who can purposefully choose to re-open Naruto's tenketsu, the manga and anime show the chakra coming from deep within side the center of Naruto's chakra network and spreading outward, forcing open the tenketsu as it spreads. Curse marks are described as themselves containing chakra and such and even require a ritual in order for the user to truly master it and internalize that power in the first place (the entire point of the sasuke retrieval arc). I think Kimimaro would try to use the curse mark to re-open his tenketsu but ultimately fail and then wind up dying as a result.

Neji is the biggest counter to Gaara. Gentle fist negates all chakra based substances. Neji played with Naruto because he saw Naruto as a joke and heavily underestimated him. Neji has the ability to read people and analyze them really well. He’s not going against Gaara thinking he’s a joke. He will speed blitz Gaara and breach every save defense with ease before shutting down all of his tenketsu. Unlike with Naruto, I can see Neji going for the kill due to what he is able to gather on Gaara’s personality. Neji isn’t playing with that one.

one thing overlooked about neji's skillset during part 1 is that he, like lee, also has some insane movement speed that i'm surprised wasn't brought up in this video. during his fight with kidomaru, a near-death neji was able to cover the distance of an arrow that kidomaru shot from across a large strip of the forest before kidomaru even fell to the ground from his tree branch and blitz him for an attack. that's seriously impressive. he doesn't show many travel feats during the chunin exams, but the margin of improvement from CE neji and SRA neji can't be that great. i don't think neji would get tagged by gaara's sand in the exams at all, both lee and sasuke were able to manuever around the sand and as a fellow top-tier who has some great movement speed himself, neji could certainly escape gaara's AoE attacks for some hit-and-run strategies.

You should just go all in and powerscale/rank all of the part 1 characters on a tier list.

Someone finally did Neji justice

His body flicker and combat speed are on fifth gate level. The continuous movement speed, running speed, especially without body flicker, and stamina allows lee to be the only one that can maintain that level speed continuously without extreme fatigue. This is why the combo is important. it overwhelms his combat speed and high speed stamina.
