As President Putin repeats his assertion that Ukraine and the West are behind the terrorist attack last week that killed 137 Russians, the evidence is only growing that this was the work of ISIS. The culprits come from a faction that have risen out of the ashes of the former ISIS Caliphate: ISIS-K. So who are they? And how worried should the rest of the world be?

Guest: Mark Galeotti, historian, journalist and author of ‘We Need to Talk About Putin,’ ‘Putin’s Wars’ and ‘A Short History of Russia.’

Host: Manveen Rana.

Clips: Telegraph, PBS Newshour.

If you look carefully in the auditorium you will see 5/6 men all in blue with black wrist watches on. They don’t seem very bothered about what’s going on around them. Now that speaks volumes.

In terms of loss of life this one incident is 2000 times less than what Putin has done in Ukraine. Putin has been causing this many deaths 3 times per day for the past 2 years. In economic terms this incident is significant but virtually nothing compared to his war.

He ignored legitimate warnings from the Americans. Not surprised

As a former KGB officer, it must be frustrating for Putin to see the US more informed about terrorist threats within Russia than Russia itself. Additionally, the delayed response of the security police only adds to the issue. His intense focus on Ukraine does little to hide his ineffectiveness in these matters. Russia blamed Ukraine within 20 minutes, despite lacking evidence and despite ISIS live-streaming the attack. Meanwhile, it took Russian authorities 90 minutes to reach the concert hall, even though it was within walking distance.

Why do the Ruzzians put up with this guy? It's baffling.

Theres no hope until his own people realise hes their enemy too. He killed far more young russians by sending them off to build an empire for him than any terrorist could

The rushist empire is starting to crumble

Putin went AWOL for 18 hours after the attack...not unlike when the Russian submarine sank - was that 1999?
  • @user-iv4pf6oq7q
18 hours to think up "How to link this to Ukraine?" Pathetic.
  • @Cagstok
Oh the Russian people thought this type of act had been relegated to the past? The European people thought wars had been relegated to the past until a couple of years ago.

don't put the poison dwarfs mug shot on the screen, please!

Putin is so narrowly focused that he is blind.

This was an FSB led operation. Look at the amount of military aged men wearing Blue shirts and Jeans, One was filmed saying close the exit. Russia has a playbook, but took acting and script lessons from Bollywood.

Putin's speech had to be delayed to give the appearance of an investigation during those 18 hours.

the fact he blamed ukraine for this is kinda pathetic. I thought putin would have more backbone than that
