4WD Tracks From Licola To Howitt Hut - [ Cracking Storm Rolled In ]

Published 2021-01-10
Heading off with my mate, we take 4WD tracks from Licola To Howitt Hut, and travels down through the Macalister River.
Then up onto Howitt High Plains where a big storm rolled in at Howitt Hut.
Leaving Licola in basking sunshine in the mid 30's, and arriving at Howitt Hut a few days later to grey skies and heavy rain and thunder.
As the trip climbed out of the Macalister River along the well known 4x4 track for the area, Butcher Country Track.
The higher in elevation we travelled the weather began changing.
With visibility reduced due to low clouds, and then arriving at Howitt Hut, the weather became quite threatening. It wasn't long before the forecasted rains and storms unleashed.
Howitt Hut is a really nice high elevation location to camp. The hut contains a great deal of history from the Bryce family who built the hut to run cattle on the High Plains back in the late 1800's.
Then there's the two unsolved murders related to Wonnangatta Station that took place way back in 1918.
John Bamford's body was found in very close proximity to Howitt Hut.
The Vic High Country has so many amazing 4x4 tracks to drive with stunning views along the way.
The Macalister River crossings were low, which is pretty normal for this time of December.
Vic High Country 4x4 adventures, i just cant get enough of them.

Awesome! As an ex-timbertop student. I hiked around these parts for a year in 2004. Been in love with the vic high country since! Will be for a lot of December / January.. I’ll be sure to say hi if I see you! I’ve been dealing with anxiety for years and being in the high country takes it all away. Your videos also help me so much; more than you could imagine. Thanks! You Aussie legend

Another good one. Nice to see someone just enjoying a couple of days out with a friend, some driving, great views, good food. I’m sure a good laugh around the fire too, at least on the first night!
