omg I've drawn and colored with pencils for over 20 years now and I never thought to use a gray scale picture of art to check shadows such a great idea.

I was gifted a lovely adult coloring book, but the illustrations were such that I didn't really know how to use it. NOW I KNOW!!! The whole book is going to be devoted to practicing your instruction! I can't wait to get started! Today's lesson: A full page of raspberries on stems and leaves, some in pencil and some in color, making all kinds of shadows and dimension which aren't in the picture yet. Thanks for the idea! And, YES! --definitely a "Light" tutorial, please!

I think all of us are very interested in seeing another video with different colored lights sources! Thank you so much for making this video. It's so helpful and informative (plus gorgeous) You're a true gem!
  • This is one of the best tutorials on light and shadow. Thank you for sharing your immense talent. I never fail to learn new techniques and inspiration.
  • My fiancé passed away almost exactly a year ago and pretty much isolated myself for 6 months. I finally decided to try to “art therapy” myself to cope with paralyzing grief. I started to watch as many art tutorials possible and while I’ve learned a lot - I often lose interest after only a few minutes. YOU though are a great teacher and keep me engaged and interested from start to finish. How did I only just find you?!?! I subscribe to many art channels but Jazza, Moriah Elizabeth and now YOU have helped me more than anyone. Thank you ❤️ I’m going to tell as many people as I can to subscribe to your channel 🤞🏻☺️
  • Thank you for a great video. This is the simply the best video , hands down, I’ve seen on the explanation of shadow/light along with terrific examples. Now I can use the few graphite pencils I own for more than cleaning my pencil sharpener blades. 🙂 Going to pick a couple of pictures and practice. (BTW - I have both of your color palette series and love them. That alone has improved my coloring immensely).....Definitely do more videos on different light/color sources!!!!!

Oh! You should do a step by step colour along of that old gold on the compass, and more practice on how to choose colors on a grayscale 🥰

I watched a few videos before finding this one and yours was much better at explaining how the effects are achieved. I'm inspired again!

The best, clearest (well organized), comprehensive, accessible (for non-artists) tutorial on the topic I've seen. Thank you!
  • Thank you so much for this video. I’m getting ready to color the compasses in Kirby’s World Within Worlds and the one in Basford’s Enchanted Forest. Most colorists seem to ignore shadows in these pages so they look flat. I wanted that 3D look and found this video. I struggle with shadows (nature skipped that artistic gene in me so I have work at what others seem to do easily).
  • What helps me is when you said: “have fun with it”. I struggle with being perfect like, “should the shadow be longer?”, “it doesn’t look realistic”, things like that so this helps

😮 this is one that will keep teaching me over and over! Thanks!
  • @MiraSmit
Coloring books are a great way to learn about things like shadow and practicing techniques without having to draw an outline yourself.
  • @YukinoKary

  • I learned SO much from your video although I have been coloring fir over 10 years.
