Barbie in the Nutcracker was Barbie's very first movie. It began a bizarre legacy of crunchy computer-animated Barbie movies that currently total 42 entries, but it is, in many ways, the most iconic. Come with me on this journey of exploration through impeccable girl's cinema.

Featuring:
- Nutcracker fun šŸ„œ
- sticking it to the man āœŒļø
- MANY CGI ballet sequences šŸ©°
- Tim Curry evil mouse šŸ
- woodphobia šŸŖµšŸš«

Indirectly convincing an academic to sit down and watch a straight to vhs Barbie movie has to be a career highlight.
  • @LackingSaint
I dont think I realised until watching this video that I actually know almost nothing about the nutcracker. this is a messed up story
  • Guysss you are not going to believe this but there are plants that smell just like peppermint in REAL LIFE

Marzipan is always my nominee for best barbie movie animal companion. No annoying voice, consistently helpful, looks cool. All pros no cons
  • Love that not only you did extensive research for this but actually emailed the academics you mention to ask them their specific thoughts and they replied, that's so cool!!

4:01 Clock the Tchaikovsky painting in the background :) I love the 2000s Barbie movies and appreciate them for teaching young me about ballets and music and literature. I blame Barbie for my love of Tchaikovsky's compositions in particular!šŸ’›

omg. For the longest time my friend and I have made an event out of every straight-to-video barbie movie. It's become our thing. One just came out last week. Barbie movies deserve more attention. Thank you for doing your part.

Something interesting about this movie is that the romantic leads were played by the same voice actors as the english dub voices of Sango and Miroku from Inuyasha. Kind of a fun little coincidence for fans of that couple to appreciate

im only 15 minutes in and... oh my god? this is BY FAR, one of the best analyses ive ever seen on youtube. barbie in the nutcracker was so detrimental to my childhood and current love for ballet, tchaikovsky, literature and quite literally most of the arts. ive been on this train of constant curiosity about how others feel about my most favorite movie as a child, and this truly has sparked the same feeling i felt watching it for the very first time. and also this was another reminder that the nutcracker/eric's voice actor, kirby morrow, is no longer with us šŸ’”
