The new Samsung M8 Monitor doesn't quite have the specs to match up against the Studio Display from Apple, but that won't stop us from talking about it. In this clip, Marques and Andrew talk about the monitor and what they like/don't like about it.

You guys missed the fact that it has a cloud version of ms word and excel and stuff. So this monitor can be used as a computer itself. I know quite a few mates in university who use the M7 for that purpose.

Honestly having the smart tv is really cool, when you aren’t at your desk using a desktop computer is really inconvenient. Being able to just use a regular remote to browse YouTube Netflix etc is much better. To be fair I think a laptop makes way more sense for individual watching, but for people that want more of a TV experience e.g. for group watching, it’s super cool.

Weirdly enough, due to licensing agreements, most streaming services do not allow 4K streaming over the web on computers, tablets, or smartphones. You actually need to have a Smart TV platform of some kind in order to get 4K and HDR content. So the SmartTV aspect here actually makes a lot of sense, even if you're still sitting on your desk while watching content.
  • the features for this thing is freaking amazing. if I didn't already have a smart tv in my office, I would 100% get this. especially for quick stuff for quick editing power points and stuff

YES!! we would LOVE a review on this. This seems like a good use case for me in my tiny apartment.
Also comparison with the M7 would be cherry on the top.

Hit the nail on the head with why some people will like the smart TV functionality Marques. Other main reason is that almost every streaming service limits streaming on PC to 1080p. The only real way to take advantage of a nice 4K HDR display for streamed content is to hook up a 4k Roku, Amazon, Google or whatever streaming stick, so this is perfect for that as well.

if Apple came out with the same product as that of Samsung's with triple the price all these reviewers would've been like" OMG this is so revolutionary, look at that design and web cam its so genius 😱"
  • @CalebCheek
There’s actually a fairly substantial reason for it having TV features. With YouTube being the exception, most streaming services are capped at 720P when using a web browser. These built in apps would allow you to actually view content in 1080P and 4K

Surprisingly you don't HAVE to use Bixby, there's an option to use Alexa instead. It works pretty well! You can change the input, search YouTube, etc all with your voice so it's actually useful.

I think this monitor is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for. My spouse and I have pared our home computing down to just our smartphones - minus the very few instances where the cripplingly old laptop she took from work steps in - and the wireless Dex setup for my Galaxy S22 Ultra I've been building. I was just recently looking at the 32" M7 monitor (2020) when I came across the M8, which is fortuitous timing. The feature set of this monitor would work PERFECTLY for our use case since I sometimes use my office as a private media room (TV, music, gaming, etc) away from our main TV/media room but want added work functionality which the Office 365 capability would help bolster in addition to Google's options via Android/S22 Ultra. Plus, the included, detachable webcam would alleviate the need for yet another separate device. Also, on top of the incredible functionality, this monitor looks absolutely amazing and in white would fit perfectly into my office decor from an aesthetics standpoint. Personally, I think Samsung nailed this monitor and creating a new product niche. I'm going to immediately start selling my spouse on the purchase of this monitor/TV/virtual workstation/video conference hub/etc/etc.

I would say a good portion of my younger friends in Korea do only have one monitor for both tv/computer. Rooms tend to be pretty small especially in Seoul, so I would say Samsung definitely added the smart TV functions for their Korean customers more than for their American customers.

OMG! Apple invented colour? Oh, I forgot Apple invented rounded corners. At least until they invented square corners. Apple did invent the notch. Love the notch.

FWIW, Samsung TV's have been smart TV's for around a decade. Putting smart TV features in a monitor probably saves them money on manufacturing costs. I use a Samsung TV as a monitor.

I'd love to see a review of this monitor on the main channel
Give samsung products other than their phones some love😭

Samsung started with those colour options long ago with their fridges as the Bespoke series. Then they brought the bespoke colours to their smartphones, starting with the Flip3 5G. And now they transferred those colours to their monitor line up as well. And this is what they announced long ago. So even if it looks like copying Apple, it's not.

This looks great, more so when you consider the price. Would love to see a review of this monitor.
  • This would be perfect for college students. Can use as smart tv, plus could use MS cloud apps. Use dex with mouse and keyboard for more app options... and laptop for even more. Options for students without a desktop PC.
  • @openURcantos
Not only you can get back and relax in TV mode, but if you are using this with a laptop and you are "done" for the day, you can just kick back and use it in smart tv mode to just consume content and not have your laptop/pc on. It's brilliant for a 32" 4K display if you are tight on budget and want to have multiple options available.
That's the key here, OPTIONS, something that Apple users don't know what to do with.

I love that smart TV feature, if it's a normal monitor u don't have a remote and we have to type or open apps in PC or macos. It's a hassle, smart TV mode let's you really relax... lie down and use the remote to control it... there's airplay and chrome cast built-in and we have smart hub, wireless dex, remotely connect to PC, m8 can act as smart speaker, even when the display is switched off (u can use Google assistant, Alexa or bixby), can use microsoft 365 without a PC etc... there are more features. Like that Webcam you can move it anywhere and use it as wireless Webcam. Marques should try it. Exploring it might give you an understanding of all the features it has. Simple and small features that just make life easier (or relaxed 😝)
  • @truecuckoo
Was looking forward to a mention of the portable music tracker called M8! It’s sick. You should try it.

Monitors like this are perfect for the tiny apartments in korea and japan. I'd imagine it was designed with that market in mind. Tbh i use my current monitor as both a pc monitor and a smart tv. I connected my shield to the monitor so if i decide to move away from my desk to my bed or tiny little couch I can still watch content.
