MoonShade vs Neso Shade vs Dragon Fly Tarps on a Skinny Guy Campers

Published 2022-10-30
We try three different transitional shade / awning systems. Mounting a traditional awning is possible but is difficult due to the way the camper operates. We look at Moon Shade by Moonfab, Nesso, and Dragonfly Tarps. All three are viable and quite versatile options for our new overland truck campers.

I feel like the only thing the skinny guy is missing is an awning that allows you to cover the entrance. Ideally something like the James Baroud awnings with the hole and tunnel system that could connect to the skinny guy door.
  • Can't wait till y'all add an annex to the area behind the truck that attaches to a zipper just on the lower edge of the top...
  • Snip a bit off a pool noodle or piece of pipe insulation for a buffer between the hi-lift and fabric.

Can’t imagine buying a tarp that isn’t waterproof? Just seems useless to me. I also like freestanding. I use a tarp now I have rigged. I really want a 270 . That to me is perfect. I have a van so my uses are just a little different. Mostly I camp everywhere not just overland. I like the moonshade best. How has that held up, do you still use or have you found better?
