I think many people kinda misunderstood the video here. It says 'the most unique...", which doesn't necessarily mean "the best". Gaahl is a fantastic vocalist, but there are others more unique than him. Imo, the vocalist of Inquisition sucks ass, but yeah, he's unique.
-
Personally, I love the singer from Summoning. Sounds like whispering trees, is beautiful.

Protector from Summoning is my favourite. His mix of black metal screaming and clean singing is one of the most beautiful things that i ever heard in music.
-
We called Inquisition vocals already in the late 90's or early 2000's as "grandma vox" - Thanks for including & tagging my Inquisition interview btw! Much appreciated.
-
Nice list, but not mentioning Attila Csihar feels off... Yes, many would say Mayhem is overrated or whatever, but I think that Attila's approach is unique - especially considering how early they began recording together. The live presence of Attila is also something else; the chanting, whispering and laughter all add up to it.
-
I think my favourite would be ONIELAR, both in Bethlehem and in Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult. Her voice is so unique to me as well, with this desperate screaming and howling she does
-
Ruins of Beverast vocals are also very unique, even album to album
-
I love mortuus from marduk/funeral mist. He’s definitely not insanely unique, but I can tell his vocals from anyone else’s, and I think he made Marduk better as a result. Also his lines that he speaks, have this chanting, almost preaching kind of style to them.
-
Neige from Alcest. You can argue that their stuff nowadays isnt black metal anymore, but he has a quite unique screaming style. The most extreme Ive heard of him was Peste Noire - Dueil Angoisseus. These vocals are absolutly insane and very unique. But even his more "regular" screaming is very recognisable. I instantly recognised his vocals in Saor - Forgotten Paths without knowing that he is featured in this album.
-
I think ihsahn also deserves a mention. Eclipse and anthem have easily one of the most recognizable vocals in bm
-
I love the sound of Quorthon! And if you want that rough high pitched screams: Depressive Years. Especially Suffering Mental Illness is great with the basic intro riff.
-
Lifelover does the high pitched shrieking and also the post punk style, pretty unique
-
Valfar deserves to be mentioned. He does both the typical Black Metal style vox and also the epic cleans.
-
I love Belphegor’s Helmuth vocals especially live. These lion like growls scratch my brain differently.
-
Weird that Attila Csihar isn't here, as he has very recognisable style of singing - mad and expressive mixture between clean vocal, throat singing and scream, usually with pretty free approach to rhythm.
-
My favorite black metal vocalist is Garm. He is able to do the black metal shrieks like on Nattens Madrigal and soothe you like on Bergtatt and Kveldssanger.
-
I recommend Stworz: Pagan Black Metal from Poland. the singer also has an iconic voice
-
Morean from Dark Fortress is criminally underrated. He has insane range both stylistically and tonally.
-
Great content as always!
