CORN STARCH Resin BLOOMS?! - This is CRAZY! A Video by Daniel Cooper

Here is a Resin Art video as requested, we experiment with Corn Starch instead of baby powder! You can see I stopped the experiment after my 1st attempt with the baby powder as I was too excited to try the corn starch instead! If you still want me to carry on testing with the baby powder, let me know, I will make it happen! I felt it was important to keep that 1st experiment in the vid. I am also currently running another experiment which so far, is showing even better results using a few drops of sinker white alcohol ink instead of the white dye, I will be bring that vid soon also! 😊

Please do NOT experiment with products which may be dangerous if mixed with resin!

I was going to edit out the 1st 10mins with the baby Powder but thought it was important to show, sorry if that part was boring πŸ˜‚
  • @mikemccormick865
I love your commentary. β€œIt’s not an absolute disaster.” That is normally what I’m shooting for. Thanks Daniel.
  • After watching your baby powder video I lay in bed thinking about what I could try and corn flour/starch was top of my list. And bloody hell you beat me to it. I refuse to tell you what was 2nd on my list. πŸ™ˆπŸ€ͺπŸ˜‚

Don't panic Dan, everything you do, happt little accidents and all really help those of us just starting out 😊
  • @lisaburnham7151
I love watching all of your experiments. I really like the last one! It's so light and airy. 😍 I am truly missing your videos. I hope everything is okay. πŸ₯°

I like how lacy they are. I think chalk and plaster of Paris powder would add opacity Both are stupid cheap and readily available. Chalk comes in colors so you have an option there. Cornstarch for me almost always goes clear if it is in small amounts.

Heya Daniel, you have the most infectious laugh/giggle, love the experiments as it helps us on our resin journey too. 😊
  • @Orca2019

It's still very pretty. To me it looks more like a bloom of a Hibiscus flower. πŸŒΊπŸ‘ˆπŸ½βœ…πŸ’―
  • @farialmab4723
The first attempt looks like a Tie-dye hibiscus flower! 😊
  • @mojoe7951
The first ones like tie dye effect. It’s pretty cool, I like it. Great pieces, both of them.

Daniel, corn starch changes with temperature. As the resin heats up, it starts to cook the corn starch and the corn starch becomes translucent. You may try experimenting with mixing the corn starch and resin in container that is wider and shallower in an effort to keep the resin temp to a minimum. Adding mica powder to the corn starch prior to mixing it in the resin may be a way to color it evenly. I dunno, I'm just guessing. I want to try resin with kaolin powder but I'm not sure just how fine it is.
  • @candywarmuth6241
Cornstarch is clear, transparent when added to liquid. The talc worked well.
  • The first large coaster looks like a 🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺

Wow! You are so hard on yourself. It's awful to hear. Please show yourself the respect you deserve. You're a very talented artist...there's no need for those comments, hon. ❀
  • @maddieadams75
Very interesting tutorial. Cornstarch makes sense it’s a thickener when it heats up. Looking forward to more experiments ❀ thanks Daniel

Just found your channel! Potato starch might be a good option. It's pretty similar to corn starch, but at least in water it reacts slightly differently. And it's a bit more opaque. Another option might be to try a darker dye than white. Maybe a yellow or orange with that color palate. (A lighter one than used in the center, but one that would grab the starch better.)
