Barbecue is not a craft, it's a calling for pitmaster Rodney Scott. "Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown" airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Thank you for the ride, the escape, the travel ANTHONY......You took me to places, I wouldn't have ordinarily visited. The aromas, the beauty, the uniqueness, I'll never forget. Most importantly, you graced me with cultures of people from all over the world. My experiences has expounded to "Parts Unknown!!!!!!!! A toast to you Anthony...........R.I.P!!!!!!!!!!!!

Took his passing really hard. It surprised me, how I responded. Something about the light and the dark that was in him...that made him complicated and interesting. He loved fine food and dining, yet hated the pretentiousness of it at the same time. He was an unashamed Jersey guy too. I appreciated that after living there for awhile. Love you Tony. Wish you could have made another choice for your daughter's sake. For us dad's, nothing is better than a daughter. They are precious!

I’m literally watching this while laying in bed and eating some of Scott’s BBQ right now. It’s delicious stuff. And it’s true that most of SC is all about mustard sauce and this is a vinegar sauce. Having grown up with the vinegar based this is right up my alley.
  • And it should be noted Sean Brock, one of the greatest (and most important) chefs in the world, was sharing this meal with Bourdain, and very likely he was the guy who presented Rodney Scott to AB to begin with.

Can confirm, Rodney's is the best.... but then I am biased, and spoiled, as I live in Charleston...

We used to cook one like this for the Fourth of July when I was a kid. I remember finally being old enough to get up at midnight with the men and then being able to shovel coals from the burn barrel to under the hog. It was a right of passage.
