Dollhouse Miniature Exterior Finishes

For the bricks another option is to have a screwdriver at the width of the brick height and press it into the pencil mark it should have the same effect as using the blade and bamboo stick(sorry can not spell the name for it) For the egg carton stones I actually use a nail file to ruff up the cut edges to give them a natural look. For the one with the sand, I would add PVA glue to the mix, this will extent the base white so your not wasting as much paint and it will give a better stronger hold on the sand to the wall. Rather than using a brush to,put it onto the surface try using a pallet knife it’s easier to clean with baby wipes. Great idea building a cube with all the wall or floor surfaces as a reference key for any future build/model making.

I am building a Harrison because I loved the picture video of yours. This helped me so much when doing the outside finish. I did the tissue technique and it came out beautifully! Looks like it might be clapboard, shiplap or board & batten pattern. I have used the tack strip many times and love it. One tip is to spray glued pieces with clear matte before painting (priming). That will keep it from rippling a little. I did one once without and when painted looked liked it was very old and weathered. Very cool.

Loved the video, the model is a great idea it’s always there for future reference. I realise scale is important to miniatures, as this was a demonstration of types of sidings to use being a bit of wont matter.

I think that is called clap board. As to "correct scale" comment. I think one has some leeway in sizing things because bricks come in different sizes in life, as does clap board, or floor boards or what have you. For instance, I just heard pop sickle sticks are "not to scale." Well that would depend on what size the floor boards one is trying to reproduce. There are floor boards that are as much as 8 inches wide, for which one could use something as wide as the "tongue depressor" type sticks.

Okay here comes the noob! I finally got a doll house and I'm not sure if I'm unhappy with it because I can't find anybody who has it but I want to put brick on it so I would do little sections of Styrofoam and put them on there or do I pattern it out and then proceed? And would that be very thick looking? I guess I should have went back and listened to see what size thickness you used for the brick to me this is very confusing stuff probably because I'm new never done the dollhouse I acquired is called a little Molly and I don't think it's a true 1-in scale. All my furniture seems to be so big in it!
