FRAUD OR EXPERT? How to identify one?

Published 2020-08-21
Warren Buffet’s longtime partner, Charlie Munger once told the story about recognizing a real expert from a fake expert and a fraud.

So this video is about how to tell whether a person is a real expert or pretending to be an expert or just a fraud?

After receiving the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1918, Max Planck was invited on tour across Germany to give a talk on new quantum mechanics. He gave the same lecture so many times that his chauffeur remembered every word of the lecture.

So one day the Chauffeur says to Plank, “It has to be boring giving the same speech each time, Professor Planck. How about I do it for you in Munich? You can sit in the front row and wear my chauffeur’s cap. That’d give us both a bit of variety.”

Planck agreed and on the following day, the chauffeur gave the lecture while Planck sat in the audience.

When the lecture was over, a professor from the audience stood up and asked a question.

The chauffeur smiled and said: “Never would I have thought that someone from such an advanced city as Munich would ask such a simple question! My chauffeur will answer it.”

Two of my favourite quotes on this topic. "I know that I know nothing" "Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting them in a fruit salad." Ahoy there. Another great video. I just watched your video on the book Factfulness. I just wanted to be sure your channel wasn't going to be you claiming that Bill Gates is an Illuminaughty Lizard Man. Thank you ever so much for not disappointing. If you haven't read about what is referred to as the Dunning-Kruger effect I would highly recommend looking at the work done by David Dunning and Justin Kruger. It's a basic summation of this and how those with less experience far overestimate their actual ability. Hilariously, it even won them an Ig Nobel for their work and I think has to be the most deserving work of that award ever.

i• really appreciate your simple word picture stories. I.E. chauffuer knowledge. We think in metaphoric pictures and stories much better than letters or numbers. Shalom.

Excellent video. "Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance." How true. Here's another great saying which is virtually the same: "The beginning of wisdom is the realization of how little we really know."
