  • The best description I’ve heard of Heilung came from a YouTube comment on one of their videos and I unfortunately forget the persons handle so I can’t give them credit but they said “Heilung makes you homesick for somewhere you’ve never been and nostalgic for a life you’ve never lived” which I think summarizes them perfectly!
  • Children born under the eclipse are special. In the end she meets her soul animal.

I'm a diehard metalhead and I've never been into modern mainstream music as it is too generic. I was very close minded when it came to music. But after discovering Nordic/Scandinavian/Germanic music, I couldn't help myself from diving deep. It is so primal and "natural", and it resonates with my soul. One of my favourites is an artist named Eivor. She is from the Faroe islands and not only does she write awesome music in English, but she also writes and composes songs in traditional Faroese. I highly recommend these two songs by her.. Trodlabundin - https://youtu.be/wsl-KHGe4Kk Falling Free - https://youtu.be/KNPIdGBn7M4
  • Their whole live performance at Castlefest 2017 is enchanting, especially In Maidjan, Krigsgaldr and Hamrer Hippyer are worth a watch! For more cinematic music videos like Anoana, try Norupo.
  • As a singer, see Maria Franz full power in "In Maidjan", live from Castle Fest. It was their first song in a live performance. Hard to believe it was a bands first performance
  • @DrSkeff
The singing that Maria does in the middle of the song on the beach (3:50) is called Kulning, a Scandinavian herding call. Such a beautiful song and great to see your enchanted reaction.

I highly recommend you Wadruna feat. Aurora - Helvegen Its a beautiful song about the nordic afterlife, the live performance of them was incredible. Wadruna made some songs for the series "Vikings", they try to make people aware of the old nordic songs so they dont get forgotten. Aurora is a Godclass singer and also has tons of great songs.

Heilung literally means Healing.. and I think the best way to describe their music is Spiritual. Glad you did you this one!
  • @Squeesher
Heilung is so therapeutic to listen to, I find. In Maidjan and Krigsgaldr from their live concert Lifa would be the obvious next performances to check out. Loving your hair! 😍 Love from the Maritimes (PEI)

Can I just add som points that are important in seeing this? The most important being that the child is born under an eclipse 0:56 (seen in background several times). According to previking believs they had very special gifts: hamnskifte (= the ability to change appearance), age shift, talking to animals, and healing as in when she heals the bird. The previking time and it's religion in nordic countries is much more female directed than the religion in the later years (viking gods like Tor and Oden with all the everpresent masculinity... ). Actually it is more animistic than divine. The language they use is only partially known and therefore reconstructed. The final scene is when she reunites with her totem, the muschosoxe. (Partially reposted from my earlier comment on this movie)
  • I saw them live in Toronto September of '22 and, it was exactly what I had been led to expect - more of a ritual we all shared than a performance we watched. This song in particular captures the old Norse world view of human interaction with the magic that inhabits the world of nature all around us, and within us - similar to the invocation at the beginning of each public ritual. Maria's regalia places her as a traditional seidr (more properly seiðr), a term you might enjoy researching.

People of Germanic heritage seem to have a gut reaction to Heilung, I know I do. Anoana was a great Shaman, born during an eclipse. Note the antler buttons on the infant. YES, a Musk Ox. The language is as close to ancient Germanic/Gothic as can be expected.

Watch the live performance of Lifa. All their instruments are hand made the way it was traditionally made. Some instruments also include bones of animals and there was also an instance where they had human bone as an instrument. That's what I've heard. Also, they did some gifting of hand made drums that included using the blood of each member to paint the drums 😍 This group is the only one other than Wardruna that speaks to my soul. Glad you've done a reaction to them 😊
  • @-Nordic-
Anoana is the protector of nature and everything that lives in it. Ana is the mother of all Celtic god's. Greets from Germany
  • Nice reaction:) Had the privilege to see them live here in Sweden last autumn, and it was fantastic. What an amazing show. If you have the chance to see them live, don`t miss it. As many suggested you should give Krigsgaldr and In Maidjan a listen. Because we need more Heilung reactions:)
  • @tiffannirose468
She is a changeling. Capable of living any moment of her life that she so chooses. Which is why you see her in different stages of womanhood. This story is based off of ancient coins/charms that depicted people being born under the eclipse possessed.
  • @hawkgod14
I liked that reaction, and the fact you did a bit of research behind the band. I would recommend to dive into quite a few of their songs. In Maidjan live is great to showcase especially the lead female singers voice, Krigsgaldr live is great to get a good feel, and if you like another music video, they made "Norupo", which is quite cool aswell! If you want something special, like these, check out Eivør - Trøllabundin, she is an artist from the faeroe islands, and quite captivating!
  • @stu1561
Nice one 😊. Try one of their other popular ones In Maidjen. Their music is based on very old Nordic tribal writings and they are described as amplified history. I havent spoken to anyone that has heard them and not be moved by the experience.
  • @glowingeddy
Heilung needed to grow a bit on me but now that it did it's such an experience, all of the songs are great in their own right
  • Everyone has their view on this song. To me it is a child born different than anyone else. She goes out into the world living her life, searching for her vision, her goal on who she is. She keeps on living her life alone, separate from all others, until one day she finds her calling, and the universe delivers....
