This is Microsoft’s fault as far as I’m concerned. They had their lawyers testify in court “we won’t raise prices we pinky promise we won’t” so this is their fault. Entirely a self-inflicted wound.

I’m done with paying the scammers money, sorry for the ones who pay for their scams

“Yeah, we’ll let you buy the basic game for like $70. You know, if you just want like the base game… Or you can prove your real fan by upgrading to the $120 version and the seven dollars a month service!” 🎩 🐍 no step on snek!🇺🇸🇭🇰

The entire industry could be accused of causing consumer harm. Just look at the TOS and the rampant abuse of consumer rights in the last 15 odd years.

every time i hear a comparison between now and back then my brain always reruns the memory that everything in this psychotic world turned upside down way too often and I'm left with the realization that I just have no place in it, movies disappoint, games are too expensive, everyone goes their own way leaving you behind What a waste america

Ironically they were silent when PS Plus raised their prices……

YouTube has treated me with deleting my account many times, but i have paid for life some movies one YouTube, so I always reminded them of what happens if you think your woke TOS takes away my consumer rights, you live in the EU, then the EU consumer laws always apply no matter your TOS or country of origin, and because of greed most companies in entertainment are based in Ireland so you are even more easily to crack down on, Ireland is the world’s tax haven, without consequence for some reason and a EU member

I bought my collector edition of The Witcher 3 for £129 and similar for AC: Brotherhood, Black Flag & Odyssey. Now for the same amount of money you don't even get a physical disc... And game can be deleted/deactivated or servers can be shut down for various reasons. And to rub more salt into the wound... I remember paying ~~£7.99 for 4K Netflix, now the price is around £17.99 - £19.99 + £4.99 for extra member slot...

every subscription service in the past 5 years have absolutely tanked in value. VRV is defunct and it was cheaper cable with old WB shows. Sony bought Crunchyroll and ruined it. Redbox got purchased, the managers didn't pay their bills. Online DRM wiped out what people "purchased." Microsoft said they wouldn't raise game pass prices. They did anyways, and they will call it "adjusting for inflation" in response. I'm pretty sure this is how it will go down. And the lack of spine at the FTC will just kick back, and be as useless as ever.

Not so long ago you could buy a collector edition of a game for £129/$159, now for that amount of money (yes, I'm aware of inflation) you don't even get a physical disc anymore... Further more "your" game can be removed/deactivated or servers can be shut down at any given time...

I expect nothing to come of this. Companies laugh at the FTC, and bake into their budget the cost of paying off insignificant fines if the FTC decided to snoop around. A great example of how toothless the FTC is, is those "Void if removed/broken" stickers you find on a lot of electronics. Those are actually not allowed to be put on products, as per FTC regulations. But the FTC never goes after companies with anything worth a damn so companies do it anyway. There are a TON of FTC regulations that companies in the US blatantly disregard because they are never enforced. Or the fines so insignificant that disregarding it is more profitable than abiding by it.

I’m so sick of this I don’t even want to play there games for free, they are too me value 0
  • @GG-fi4ye
Another thing that they dont mention and just as you said vee, they give you games for subscription BUT you have to buy microtransactions. So they rely on some whales to keep this subscription model alive.
  • @BearZerq
"You don't play them, they're paid by the government with taxes(paraphrased" My guy, that's just you paying them without any say on if they're doing a good job or not.
  • @robcampion9917
And this is one of the reasons why I pretty much only buy indy games.
  • @SomeCanine
Why would anyone pay money for the modern AAA woke/buggy slop? Genuine question.

Personally, I find the idea of corporations trying to fool their costumers hilarious. We're talking about gamers: people who's hobby (and not job!) includes min-maxing for situational optimization, perfectly balancing resources just because it looks nice, finding and exploiting broken mechanics for fun, and most importantly having the ability to team up with random people to efficiently cooperate against a common enemy. And those corpos think they have a chance, while the worst case win condition for gamers is as simple as literally not doing anything.
