Kelsey Grammer Went Out on a Limb to Reboot ‘Frasier’

Grammer delves into the initial anxiety around rebooting the TV series ‘Frasier’ in 2023 on Paramount+ given the iconic status of the original show. The new series follows Dr. Frasier Crane in the next chapter of his life as he returns to Boston and forges a new relationship with his son.
The original ‘Frasier’ ran for 11 seasons (1993-2004) and was a spin-off of the hit sitcom ‘Cheers,’ starring Ted Danson, Shelley Long, Woody Harrelson and Bebe Neuwirth. Just a few months after ‘Cheers’ had its last episode, ‘Frasier’ premiered as a series revolving around psychiatrist Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer), costarring David Hyde Pierce, Peri Gilpin, Jane Leeves and John Mahoney. Over the course of its run, ‘Frasier’ won 37 Emmy Awards. To this day, Grammer is the only actor with Emmy nods for playing the same character on three shows: ‘Cheers,’ ‘Wings’ and the original ‘Frasier.’
After struggling with substance abuse issues in the ‘80s and ‘90s, Grammer reflects on how he feels younger now at 69 than he did in his 30s, when ‘Frasier’ first aired. Grammer has been sober from drugs and alcohol since 2016 and is now a happy father of seven kids. These days, he says he cares less about “success” and more about “being of service.”

What's missing with this reboot is peer banter, no miles, roz, Martin, Daphne ... it doesn't fire on all the Frazer cylinders. It's missing that neurotic tension 😢
