"I know someday you'll have a beautiful life. I know you'll be a star In somebody else's sky. But why? Why? Why can't it be mine?" That line kills me every time
-
The ending lines always get me sobbing. You hear Eddie’s voice cracking as he begs, PLEADS, asking “Why? Why? Why?”, each time getting more and more upset. This is an absolute masterpiece of a song.

Nobody can cover this song because of the emotion in Eddie’s voice. It’s incredible. Such an amazing song.

Lost my daughter in suicide a few months ago. She was just seventeen years old. I wish there was a way to get here back from that black sky full of stars.
-
The "Whyyyyyyyyy!?!?!?!?" Gives me goosebumbs each time
-
My girlfriend of 3 months died when I was 17. This song makes me cry every time I hear it. I’ll see you again Tricia. We had a lot we missed.

Greatest grief one shall have is loss of someone who is still alive. This song proves it for sure.

"I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star in somebody else's sky. But why... can't it be mine?" Everyone who has lost, feels this lyric deeply 3

Holy shit this powerful....I never paid attention to the lyrics because its hard to understand Eddie when he sings but manly tears were shed. What a beautiful way to describe a lost love. Damn this hurt.

Who's still listening in 2024..?

The pain of loosing someone you have invested your heart and soul into only to have your world destroyed is encapsulated in this song. That's why it touches the soul so much
-

At 69 Year old I still feel the pain of losing the woman I loved more than life in 2003. We both had issues and it may have been inevitable but, the song makes me still sob every time I hear it. I lost everything, literally at that moment. I'm lucky to be alive. Eddie's voice and knowing she will someday have a beautiful life in e else's sky, but not mine is almost too painful to listen to the song. Reflections on ultimate pain after all these years shows the importance of what Pearl Jam still is. I want this played at my funeral.

it's bittersweet. It's so great that this song exist but it sucks knowing Eddie must have gone though a miserable fucking breakup and spent quite some time living in hell for him to be able to write it and put that dreadful despairing feeling into words. But he did so perfectly. This song perfectly encapsulates that feeling of just nothingness that you feel after a breakup.

This song hits especially hard right now. Spouse currently on life support for late end liver disease. Listened to this and sang it on my way to the hospital with tears coming down. The way his voice sings this, you feel the angst. Beautiful.
