  • While in the Air Force, I flew out of Galena Alaska at 50 below. The very nice ground crew preheated my cockpit with a Herman Nelson heater, which I appreciated. As I was taxing to the runway in my warm cocoon, I went past a security policeman guarding an aircraft in the cold, and had sympathy for him.

The A10 sounds like a RC on the take off but in battle is the right hand of Uncle Sam.

Great video. Love those jets. Must have been cold as hell making these images. Big thanks.

Wasn't stationed in Alaska but watching the video brought back memories of working the line in Wurtsmith AFB in Michigan. When we got those lake effect snows off of Lake Huron it could be real interesting.

Stationed at Elmendorf from 83 - 85. Worked in the MSL (Maintenance Supply Liaison)Unit. Procuring hard to get parts to keep our 21st TFW F15's flying. It was spectacular to watch the F15's take off with full afterburners in the dawn and the vertical climbs were awsome to watch.

Love the crew chief who warmed his hands up on the exhaust of that Strike Eagle.
