I think the lords of each faction actually "pay" the mercenaries every cycle, so by cheesing them IM pretty sure you tanked their economy thats why they turned in to potatoes

Thereโs a rogue perk that makes all bandits offer to join you when you first meet, and maxed out medicine gives bonus health to all your troops. You can combine them to get a looter army that can go toe to toe with knights

the king has 14 men cause you have squeezed your kingdom of every last bit of gold you might think what you have done is an exploit but in all actuality you have ruined Vlandia and it won't recover for at least a year of in-game time after your cease being a merc

You should absolutely continue this adventure. Additionally, is there some mechanic where Charm empowers soldiers? Some games have effects where your main character(s) offers so much moral they grant unit buffs. It would be great to see the bands roving around on your team being war deities in their own right while you have unlimited negotiating power. A true mastermind never has to dirty his own hands because his servants are so powerful

Have you noticed how you have to pay a small sum of money when your faction hires mercs? I think what is happening to the vlandian ai is that spiff leeched all the money every single lord had and now they are struggling to recover their economy.

Personally, I love how you can just ruin the entire game by purchasing all of the food and hoarding it away, resulting in every party starving to death, reducing the lords to just a bunch of 1-man parties running around being kidnapped by forest bandits and looters.
