Barking is an ancient town even older than London and the place where William the Conqueror decided to stay whilst he was building the Tower of London. There is the medieval church which outlived the Abbey built in 666 and some people say that Halloween originated in Barking.
Joolz meet the leader of the council and gets shown around the town hall. Then he visits the Creekmouth Barrier and the new town development near the Ford factory and Barking Power Station. Batman was filmed here in the switch building for the old Power Station and there are many famous people who came from Barking.

This man is doing more for British tourism than the government itself. I have visited London twice in the past 3 years and will make sure to check these fascinating historical sites.Great Job Sir!!

The Council Leader added a whole new level of knowledge to the walk. You can see he is proud of Barking, both the history and the future plan.
  • I taught my dog to play the trumpet, she went from barking to tooting in 20 minutes.
  • Excellent walk about. Good to see the Council Leader so enthusiastic and proud of Barking.

Full credit to Joulz and the brilliant Council for allowing us to share the council buildings and appointments of office. Bravo.🎉
  • Fantastic to see a Councilor with a passion and pride for his borough. Shame more council's weren't as enthusiastic. A true credit.

When I saw you were in Barking I thought”this is going to be boring” but No! It was fascinating, I am planning a visit to this once industrial wasteland as we speak. Thankyou Jools, your video opened my eyes to Barking😊

The Essex swords are called "Seax" which gave the Saxons their name -- Essex was East Saxons, Sussex was South Saxons, etc

A few months ago I started viewing Joolz' videos about the 'relatively well known' areas in London. I enjoyed them so much that I also watched the videos from lesser obvious parts of the city. Now I am waiting for each new one to be posted. I find the combination of interesting info, humor and nice music (Tom Carradine, Lil Lost Lou!) very entertaining. Compliments to Joolz and friends! Hope my English is ok, as I am from the Netherlands.

I moved from Barking in 1958 when I was 13 years old. It has changed tremendously since then but some places remain, like St Margaret's Church, where my parents were married, the Abbey remains with the Curfew Tower. Then down to the old Town Quay and the sluice gate with what we called 'the rushing waters'. There is a lot of history, much of which you gave and now a lot of development which promises much for the future. Excellent video (as always).

My goodness. A council leader that is actually human and seems a good laugh! Keep hold of him Barking!
  • @bobrose7900
Wonderful councillor and team leader - he knew his stuff, back to front and inside out, top man! This was a superb video, wonderfully complemented by Li'l lost lou's fantastic song - please make these available to download, or even better a CD, or album!
