I work in IT and I think the quote you were trying to reference is: if you think hiring a professional is expensive, wait until you hire an amateur

Ive been a roofer 33 years. I always preach quality over speed. Not only does speed sacrifice quality but if you want to be a roofer for years to come, pace yourself men. Im 56 and still getting it done on the roof. My reputation has carried me to the point that i dont even advertise to the general public. I moved into roofing only for realtors. They know what they want and are willing to pay top dollar for quality work. I have videos on yt showing the same issues on roofs i come across. We all have to start out roofing somewhere, but if you dont know what you are doing dont start out contracting roofs, start at the bottom and learn from the old timers. I spent 2 years bucking shingles up a ladder b4 i ever laid my first shingle( which i put on upside down ). I had a patient boss and learned from one of the best. Do quality work men!

I did residential roofing for 30 years. My boss was a perfectionist. He taught me well. That is a nightmare.

This guy you can tell is super genuine and actually cares, we need more like ‘em these days
  • @lwentz5510
Heartbreaking. That's just immoral and wrong on so many levels. No different than just holding the guy up and robbing him outright.

I AM a contractor. First roof I worked on was our house with my Dad,,, Last roof finish just 2 weeks ago. more than 60 years between those two. Excellent video,, excellent eye to detail, spot on as to your appraisal of the last scammer who did that roof.

If the roofer that did that job was TRYING to create leaks, mission accomplished.
  • @cgah6690
At least he got a deal on the roof. I'm sending this video to people that ask me to lower my price. Great vid
  • as a roofer myself this hurts to watch I haven't been in the field that long, only a few months but people should take more pride in their work
  • @misterbe34
If you think it’s expensive to hire a good roofer try hiring a bad one
  • @larss592
You cannot just fix stuff like that. Once you touch it, you own it. Sounds harsh to say gotta replace it, but you are right. Saving both you and the customer from nightmares down the road. I said it b4. If you paint a turd, its still a turd.

I owned a roofing company for 8 years and i would not put my name on that job unless i started completely over on it.. all it takes is to miss one or two raised nails for a potential leak.
  • I shut down my roofing company due to the insurance. Couldn’t compete against lousy roofers with no insurance. This guy stresses checking out the contractor before hiring one. Absolutely. As long as what you say against another contractor is true, it’s not defamation. I have testified in court on behalf of the State License Board in CA against lousy roofers, most of whom are simply not qualified to install anything, or too stupid to know better.

as a roofer, that first glimpse as you climbed up and showed us that valley... it physically hurt me to look at that. I'd have been FIRED if I'd done one SECTION like that, but the entire valley!? Then looking at the rest of the roof... I ran out of curse words to call the "roofers" that did this
  • @skashed
Absolutely heartbreaking. I feel terrible for that homeowner, and for you as you had to give him that news.

We do have a lot of scammers here in Florida. When I deal with ANY company, I ask them for three things. Their license number, proof of insurance, and, if they want any money upfront, evidence that they are bonded. Amazing how many of them just leave, fast. Any respectable company will be glad to show you those three items.

as a contractor for the last 35 years , it is amazing how many times i have had a client that had been scammed and then didn't have the money to fix the mess , there should be a law that when a scammer is found guilty in court , every thing they own should be awarded to the home owner and that way they can't just move on down the street to the next sucker
