Great choice. I use the GIMP as I support open source (and I'm cheap...). I have tried it occasionally over the years but it's complexity always stopped me. Now that I am putting a little effort into it, I can really appreciate it's power. I will be checking out your tutorials.

Love your videos! I always know where to turn for tech info and programs!
  • Krita is definitely great free software, but it's definitely more geared towards digital art. The most photo editing I do with it is making thumbnails for my YouTube videos.

Darktable is my main photo editor with GIMP sometimes coming in for fixie some details. On mobile or tablet Snapseed comes in handy.

Yet another excellent TG video! I was not aware of most of these photo editors. Thanks for the information & links! 👍👍📷📷
  • Although it has a learning curve, the most comprehensive free editor I have ever found is Darktable. There are two updates a year and it is completely free.
  • I have used Photofiltre for over 10 years and find it capable of handling all my photo editing needs.
  • @Kr1st1na2
Which one do you recommend for merging/blending 3 photos into 1?
  • @kborgfeldt
Faststone certainly deserves an "also" mention was it includes file management tools which enhances a clean up of a photo shoot.
  • For quick edits when I don't want to use PS, I find Faststone Image Viewer useful. It's a good viewer with lots of sorting options and customisations, and has a fair amount of tools including good cropping and resizing. Handles almost any format. Free.
  • Although it's not really marketed as a photo editor, if you have a powerful enough computer, the video editing software DaVinci Resolve can also be used to edit images, applying a whole selection of effects, colour correction, and more. It comes in a free version and a paid Studio version, though you will likely only need to free version.
