In this emotional talk Kim remembers her brutal experience during the Vietnam war and how she found hope and forgiveness. Kim Phúc Phan Thị is known around the world as "The Girl in the Picture" and the "Napalm Girl." In 1972, age 9, she was immortalized in a Pulitzer Prize-winning photograph that shows her running down a road in Trang Bang, Vietnam, after having her clothes burned off by napalm. Living symbol of the atrocities of war and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for the Culture of Peace, she is also the founder of The KIM Foundation International. There, she supports children who are victims of war by providing medical and psychological support in order that they overcome their traumatic experiences. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

That photo, I never saw it before and it breaks my heart to know she had to experience that and then be haunted by that photo everywhere. I understand the photographer was trying to capture why the war was wrong but no privacy for her. What an incredible story and an incredible Lady.

If you ever have a chance to see her tell the long story of her ordeal, DO. She is an amazing human being. She uses humour in her talk as well. When I saw her, there were about 800 of us. There wasn't a dry eye in the house.

Bois, she’s one of my campus parents at college! I’m not even joking. I am currently at her table eating Vietnamese Lunar New Year food (very tasty).

I’ve heard from psychology thing I listened to a while back that the purpose of forgiveness is a way for the victim to heal and not be subject to the past anymore. It’s actually not really about being a better person for forgiving the otherworldly wronged you.
