Here is an updated tutorial on how to cast a spinning rod and reel for beginners. Casting a spinning rod is not difficult, but there are a few fundamental things that you should know before you begin. I discuss in this video why braided line matters and which rod and reel to use for optimal casting when saltwater fishing inshore. I also teach you the importance of rotor placement and line lay when grabbing the braid with your index finger. Furthermore, I discuss how to cast overhand for accuracy and long-distance cast. I use an Okuma Ceymar 4000 HD and an Okuma DTR Custom with a medium-fast action tip in this demonstration.

This is the most detailed explanation for casting a spinning rod I've seen on YT. Every other video skips over what the finger does.

Back because I completely forgot how to use one. Grew up on a shrimp boat but more time fishing fresh. Caught two 3" grass carp that "didn't exist" (mythological status at an apt complex I lived at as a kid), & found out later its one of the more challenging freshwater catches. My grandpa hated these rods so I have the least exp with these - & eventually mastered them. 12 yrs later I really appreciate the refresh man. Subbed, cheers.
  • I am getting more deep into fishing, enjoyed your beginner video and the video about the AP120 kayak as I am looking at one… Would love to see more beginner videos about different hook sizes and choices, different rigs and when to use what… May be a series of videos if u have a lot of people interested… Thanks again

Please do a short video on "opening and closing the bail with your left hand". After closing the bail (with your hand) raising the rod tip the get the line straight BEFORE reeling in the line. Lots of the kid we teach wind those loose loops of line back on the reel and a few casts later, you know what a mess you get. LOL... Aloha, Stan. I'll recommend our Fishing Merit Badge kids watch your video, good information.
  • Oh great another instructional video for Chris 🤣👍🏼. Merry Christmas to you and your families 🎄

Do you recommend a 7’ or 7’6 for tossing artificials? I wade fish about 95% of the time. I like the added casting distance with the 7’6 but I find it less fatiguing and easier to work lures with the 7’ What should I use?
