Positron Video Zine : Fugazi (1993)

Published 2024-08-07
This is the Fugazi segment from Positron, a punk video fanzine which came out in limited release in 1994. This clip features an in-depth interview with Ian Mackaye and live footage shot at shows around D.C. in the summer of 1993 -- including their amazing outdoor 'Concert For Justice' at the Washington Monument (8/7/1993) (see my channel for higher quality full clips of this show) and the only known footage of the infamous "ice cream eating motherfucker" incident at Fort Reno (8/9/1993) which was included in the recent "We Are Fugazi..." documentary (2023).

There are also a few cutaway live shots from a show at Liberty Lunch in Austin TX (1990).

Apologies for the janky editing -- this was my first full self-produced video work, which was created on a hybrid Hi8 tape deck/digital system run through an Amiga 2000 Video Toaster, and mastered to 3/4" Betacam tape. The video zine was released on VHS tape with a small handmade booklet included.

I am immensely grateful to filmmakers Joseph Pattisall and Jeff Krulik for digitizing and preserving the original footage, which I somehow managed to hang onto for thirty years, and for the opportunity to finally share this work with Fugazi fans worldwide.
