LEST WE FORGET

Remembering the goodness of the Lord.(Memorials)
Joshua 4:1-7, 19-24
Joshua 4:1-7 New Living Translation (NLT)
1 When all the people had crossed the Jordan, the Lord said to Joshua, 2 “Now choose twelve men, one from each tribe. 3 Tell them, ‘Take twelve stones from the very place where the priests are standing in the middle of the Jordan. Carry them out and pile them up at the place where you will camp tonight.’”
4 So Joshua called together the twelve men he had chosen—one from each of the tribes of Israel. 5 He told them, “Go into the middle of the Jordan, in front of the Ark of the Lord your God. Each of you must pick up one stone and carry it out on your shoulder—twelve stones in all, one for each of the twelve tribes of Israel. 6 We will use these stones to build a memorial. In the future your children will ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’ 7 Then you can tell them, ‘They remind us that the Jordan River stopped flowing when the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant went across.’ These stones will stand as a memorial among the people of Israel forever.”

It is easier to remember a bad time than a good time. Most people have got too many bad memories! Too many heartaches, and they kind of live their lives with these bad memories. But the Lord commands us to keep good memories – memorials!
Benjamin Franklin once said , “Engrave the Lord’s benefits in marble, and write you injuries in the dust.”
Which means all the good things and good reports must be engraved in marble but all the bad reports, bad things and the pains of the past should be put under our feet to walk on them.
There are a number of memorials in the Bible (times and places set apart so that the people remembered some important things).Which means in life we should at least remember the good things that ever happened to us.Let us look at some of the memorials that ever happened in Bible times.First let us get the definition of the word memorial. MEMORIAL is defined as, "Something that keeps remembrance alive."
