Fishing Salmon River, N.Y. October, 2023

I had been wanting to fish Salmon River for a number of years and found some time in my schedule and made it up there! Though, the rain persisted it was good to experience being in the river for the first time and get my feet wet so to speak. I saw many salmon swim by me, (King, Coho, Atlantic) as they jumped and made their way upstream only to die after laying their eggs. I did manage to take some underwater footage that revealed the scars and decay on their beat up bodies from fighting one another. Eventually, in time the eggs hatch and grow into small fry and then to larger salmon returning to the sea only to come back years later to the river to start the cycle again. The cycle of life!

Are there a few decent looking ones that people do keep or are they all pretty rough looking? Once that rot starts they reak and i couldnt imagine them being good for anything other than smoked/canned but even then it would be pretty gnarly. Either way a day on the water seeing fish in their natural habitats doing what they do is cool as hell.
