he MG 34 was based on a 1930 Rheinmetall design under the direction of Louis Stange at Rheinmetall's Sömmerda office, the MG 30. The Swiss and Austrian militaries had both licensed and produced the MG 30 from Rheinmetall shortly after it was patented and the gun started to enter service in Switzerland. The technical challenges in meeting the Reichswehrministerium specifications were broader than the gun development itself. It also encompassed various mounts and other accessories that had to adapt that gun to different roles. The MG 30 design was adapted and modified by Heinrich Vollmer of Mauser Industries. Vollmer originally designed the feed mechanism to accept MG 13/MG 15 inspired 75-round Patronentrommel 34 spring-loaded saddle-drum magazines. The Patronentrommel 34 was a rather complex magazine for which a filling device had to be used and requiring ordnance personnel and a special tool to optimize the spring tension for reliable feeding. Users were ordered not to adjust the drum spring tension.[12] The result, the multiple role capable MG 34, wherein Rheinmetall's Sömmerda plant had a significant influence, reflected the Reichswehrministerium specifications.

All magazines used are less than 29 rounds.

Apparently my grandpa loved it, he was an electrician, judging by the helmet he left when he died some days ago
  • @Isaac-hm5ef
The sound of being suppressed by that MG is genuinely terrifying. My jaw dropped.
  • Admin is an intro genius ! Also when you pause at 2:18, you can see that germans had apple watches already in 1940-ish. Mind blowing.
  • @HPBrowningBoy
Maybe you were already aware of this but one neat feature the MG34 and 42 bipod has is that you can flip it around 180 degrees. This will let you lean into the gun for more stable shooting. For reloads or taking cover you would pull the gun back which will flip it down automaticly. This was actually how it was supposed to be used in defensive positions.
  • I appreciate how this man not only has the full uniform and firearms, but also has a friend who also has the full uniform.
  • @Darth_Glizzy_
Appreciate the vids as always! But I wanted to say thank you because I showed my dad your vids as I was recently getting into guns. He’s a Marine and he loved guns. He recently passed away but I wanted to say thank you for giving us something to bond over. A month before he passed he took me to get my first firearm. He was my best friend It’s something I won’t forget. Thanks Admin. :))
  • Ive worked on the 34 and the 42. The 34 is a much finer weapon, maybe less glamorous and slower, but very compact and better built. The single shot capability is awesome and economical. My personal fave.
  • @garmidec
I got to shoot a MG34. Now, I have alot of years behind the FN MAG (240) and FN MINI (249). What struck me was that the MG34 was so good that it felt like shooting any other machinegun.
  • @Deltlead
I love that, "Holy shit... I'm suppressed" the moment of dawning comprehension where the theoretical idea of suppressing fire suddenly becomes very practical
  • “This is getting out of hand, now there are TWO of them!” Love the German videos, can’t get enough of that camo and old school MGs
  • I fired a 100 round belt from an MG-34 and the accuracy and control was CRAZY good. I could fire any number of rounds I wanted, almost without thought. Apparently, this particular MG-34 was seriously prone to jamming and control issues as well, but it was likely pointing a LASER. While the rate of fire is not that of an MG-42, putting rounds on a six target at range was trivial with the MG-34.

One of your best episodes yet! We get to see you in real fear. Beautiful editing. Recorder had me dying while you fumbled. 10/10
  • @chadgeary2653
The germans knew what they were doing when it came to the MG34 and the thought process behind implementing it. Just absolutely gorgeous.
  • @paleoph6168
I appreciate that you are appreciating the MG 34 - the OG GPMG.
  • 7:50 The MG42 Stock is also removable, it has an endcap underneith 🙃 They used the 34 in Tanks because you could not switch barrels inside the tank with the 42
  • @MazzBCD
0:13 that shot, wearing netting on your helmet, would have been perfect to throw some of that surrounding bush on the helmet.
  • @Klarname12
As a german I can verify this video shows how my grandpa described his way to school
  • @JACKINSTEIN
The look of genuine fear in your eyes as you're behind the berm dude.. imagine an mg42 with its faster rate of fire
  • 1:18 love the fact that the helmet stays perfectly still while his head moves back and forward 😆
  • @Penekamp11
My first full auto was a MG-34. It was impossible to keep running so I traded it for an M-60. You had to be an armorer to consistently keep it firing which I am not. One of the things I remember most about it was how incredibly loud it was.
