  • Anyone who thinks a prophet can't be humorous would be well served to listen to this. Thank you President Hinckley, I miss you but this helps.

Where the video cuts off, it should keep going for atleast another 30 seconds to make this all relevant.: Here's the text as it followed: " 'I respectfully request sick leave.' - laughs "After hearing that, you may wonder how anyone could be so thoughtless and shortsighted. And yet every day we see people whose lives become entangled and who are bumped and bruised because they fail to plan, to think, to consult with others, to follow the teachings of the gospel. I appreciate what has been said tonight to the boys of the Aaronic Priesthood. And since they constitute a very substantial part of this vast congregation, boys whose lives are largely ahead of them, I should like to speak to them, to help save them from some of the bumps and bruises of life. I should like to offer what I have chosen to call “Four Bs for Boys.” They are: (1) Be Smart, (2) Be Fair, (3) Be Clean, and (4) Be True."

I remember that one. Truly miss his down to earth humor. Could use more of that currently.

Truthfully, I wish more leaders would let their senses of humor come out! Too many times we feel our leaders should be solemn, quiet men and hide their true personalities. I once received an anonymous letter telling me that the members of the bishopric treated our sacrament meetings like open mic night. I was deeply discouraged and met with the Stake President. He lovingly said, "you have a personality, never lose it." That's when I learned that sometimes we put undeserved expectations on our leaders. Adam fell that men might be; and men are, that they might have joy.
  • Stories like this one paints wonderful pictures only we can see in our mind.

I sure love all the Prophets….but Pres. Hinkley holds a dear spot in my heart! He was the Prophet when I was younger and in my twenties….He always looked out for us Women and helped us feel valuable . Like all the rest …we love them🥹

I’m glad he realized how much we don’t mind his humor at all. His humor made him so effective as a leader. In fact, I remember him talking about the power of good humor.

So sad to see people who find this offensive. If this happened to me, I would laugh my self silly telling it to people after the fact.
  • @JimHarmer
He was one of the good ones. I miss him.

If I was this person, I will say right now:  Please laugh at me/with me.   Humor is so essential for life - with all the anxiety, depression, melancholy - in this world, you have to have humor to live.   Alcohol, drugs, other dangerous substances will not help because they only dole the pain temporarily and they cause your body to crash or have a hangover, am I right? You got to have humor.

If this doesn't get you out of a bad or blue mood, I don't know what will.
