I visited Roselli's factory some time ago and I bought two of their biggest blades, Sami -Laplander knife blades. These kind of blades are called "Leuku" in Finnish. I desided to do birch bark handles for them. I wish this opens your eyes how to do it. As you may notice, it's rather labouries to do it.
I think there's going to be a video soon introducing these knifes when ever they will be ready.
Music in this video comes from Ulla Pirttijärvi, Finnish Sami singer.
Look at video Project Lapin leuku and you will see these laplander knifes finished youtube.com/watch?v=g9Imx...

  • Love the music... suits a video of a finnish knife being made. Having Scandinavian genes in me, I am interested making this knife. Also, gonna have to google Ulla Pirttijärvi... Its nice to discover talented musicians from mother countries..

When getting the top layers off the Birch bark, I found using a scrap piece of wood with an end cut at a 45 degree angle worked amazing for scraping the bark evenly and quickly. Saved my thumbs a lot of rubbing!

Dude, I simply love your work I'm amazed by idea how you used birch tar for joining bark parts. It is very intelligent way to use natural resource and minimize adiction of unnatural matirials. Awesome !!!

I love your work. Pure beauty. I've been inspired by your skills. I've made my first stacked handle knife from a file but the fit an finish is amateur. I always come back to watch these video to get recharged when I get frustrated. Also, Love the Sami music, its relaxing and fits the knives.
