The 100 point/percent scale is not antiquated, it is simple and equitable for that matter. It is the same for everyone and provides and expected outcome. Making the statement about 59 and below as a failing grade puzzles me. We should be pushing students to obtain 90 or above in their knowledge and quality of work. Instead, we are making it was too easy to get an A and that is all the more reason why the 59 and below is not really a concern. Students who fail generally do so because they do not complete their work. I noticed something missing in the video. I did not hear any mention of student accountability. In public school, the teacher can never do enough, and the student can never do too little. No policy can fix education, but holding students accountable is a good place to start.
