Why did the Chinese boo their Olympic champion?

On August 3rd at the Paris Olympics, the women's table tennis singles final was a showdown between two Chinese players: Chen Meng and Sun Yingsha. The Chinese audience should be proud no matter who wins, but that wasn't the case. They overwhelmingly cheered for Sun Yingsha and booed Chen Meng. Chen defeated Sun and defended her Olympic title in a 4-2 match. However, Chen upset the Chinese. The answer is money and China's gold medal strategy.

Obviously she was told NOT TO WIN. It’s very obvious to the rest of the world 😐
  • Seems like the best reward for Olympic level athletes from China is an opportunity to move to another country and coach.
  • Imagine winning gold for your country only to have them turn your back on you as if you were the country's rival. Can't imagine how she must felt.
  • @ongjanette
well good for Chen Meng to play to win, because she can! If CCP doesn't want her victories, maybe other countries would want her on their team!
  • @mksee66
crazy how china failed to harass and pressure chen to loss the game.
  • Corruption from the top to the bottom! I pity Chinese athletes!
  • Thanks for sharing, it's hard for me as an American to comprehend the facilities not existing and people not having the disposable income to choose their hobbies and businesses not opening to provide those services. I'm so sorry they don't have freedom😢

Chen is in a world of pain, despite her right as an individual to compete and win. Maybe after a period of time of trial and punishment undoubtedly meted out to her by the corrupt and diabolical CCP, after this trial she may leave China and get a job on a Western country coaching Western table-tennis players for the Olympics. Where she will have a more satisfactory continued sports career with a satisfactory coaching wage that she could ever have in China.

Philippine Basketball team defeated China in their own country that's why they never made it to Paris Olympics. A come from behind win. Yao Ming devastated.

I was wondering about the woman's final match. My wife is a huge table tennis fan, and I was suprised at the lack of sportsmanship shown in China's own national sport.
  • @williambo5989
There was a story about a chinese gold medalist who left china and married a japanese because he didnt cave in to match fixing they disallowed him from playing ever again. so he married a japanese and came back and beat all his chinese former teamates at the next olympics. what a story
  • Integrity in sport is important. If this happened in cricket, it would be considered matchfixing and all those involved would be banned from the sport. This would also happen in most sports, because people who gamble money on a fixed event would be demanding refunds. This entire affair stinks.

Chinese players don’t play to compete, they play to survive

Thankyou for exposing the Chinese and their wicked sporting ways ....which the world always suspected ....and never mind their industrial doping of athletes as well.....just disgusting!!!
  • Great video Lei, thank for the explanation and bypassing the Great Firewall to tell a wider audience.
