Bodycam footage shows the moment police responded to the home daycare of Amanda Hickey, a 48-year-old woman from Dunwoody, Georgia, after she called 911 about an unresponsive baby in 2021. The video depicts Dunwoody police and firefighters investigating the scene at Hickey's "Little Lovey Daycare" business, which she ran out of her home. Authorities later found security footage showing the caretaker placing the infant on their stomach, a practice that goes against safe sleep recommendations for infants.

Following the investigation, Hickey was charged with second-degree murder. The Dekalb County woman was subsequently sentenced to 30 years in prison and five years of probation. The Law&Crime Network's Sierra Gillespie provides details on the case, discussing the events captured in the bodycam footage and the legal consequences faced by the daycare owner.

All daycares should have a live feed video monitoring system available for parents to view at any given time when their child is in their care. This is heartbreaking.

The mother running to the ambulance gave me a knot in my throat, this is truly devastating.

This is why a single person daycare should not, by law, be able to care for more than 3 babies at a time.

When that cop turned around with such confidence and said “felony murder and cruelty to children in the second degree” I got chills. I’m sorry this had to happen at all, but I’m also relieved she won’t be able to do it again.
  • She didn’t start crying until she knew she had to face the parents. The fact that she wasn’t even the slightest bit upset prior to that is unbelievable
  • It’s crazy how calm she is… my child or not, I’d be puking and inconsolable.

This is why we need a federal maternity leave law in place for working mothers. Having to leave your child with strangers during infancy is not only not normal but inhumane and cruel. I can't imagine getting this phone call. This woman is the devil smh.

the way she was trembling when she had to show the officer the video footage just tells me everything i needed to know. what a vile, disgusting excuse of a caretaker
  • @xerxezrax
that poor mother rushing to the ambulance....heartbreaking.

My mother ran a successful daycare out of our home in the 80s and she sadly had a baby die under her care from SIDS My mother was inconsolable for months and has never been the same person since that day. she still goes to a therapist every week to deal with the guilt amongst other life traumas and it wasn’t her fault. This woman has no emotions at all. That’s scary to me.

She had too many infants simultaneously, imo. The lines of cribs looked so strange.

That poor mother running to the ambulance grabbing her chest literally gave me chills and instant nausea. 😢 how beyond heart wrenching.
  • @creeisaacson
Her holding a child while she's being questioned about another child's death in her care is insane to me. I'm heartbroken for that mother.
  • @lunarbluep
She seems so calm while all this is happening. I would have been devastated if anything happened to a child I was responsible for.

Honestly there is something to be said about lack of maternity leave in the US. It’s not normal for a 4 month old to be separated from mom. Then, the ratio caregiver-children seem way too high. It should be 1:4 for babies. 1:5 for toddlers.
  • @kayzbluegenes
This is terrifying. That house is lovely; everything is clean; the environment is beautifully decorated and seems like a childhood wonder land. No red flags that would cause a parent to suspect the evil that resides there. 😢
  • @darianharvey2907
When she found out the baby had passed, no tears. Having to tell the parents what happened and realizing her business and life is ruined, waterfalls of tears. No remorse, such an awful human being
  • @moneekodunze7602
The mom running to the ambulance made me have a visceral reaction. How incredibly sad. That had to be the worst day of her life.
  • This is why my wife and I work opposite schedules so we are the only ones who watch our children.
