Going to college is supposed to be that life-changing, career-starting moment that you look back on with pride. But for some bay area graduates, they look back and only see a mountain of debt, a worthless degree, and a headache they can't kick.

Community colleges are more legit than for-profit degree mills.
  • If these schools want to be for profit they need to be treated like any other business. If someone gets a product that doesn't do what it was supposed to, they should be allowed to return it for a FULL refund.

Never enroll in a "for profit" school. Ever.

There should be a class action lawsuit against these companies.

I blame the predators, not the people trying to improve their lives.

I feel so bad for these guys. Imagine being in that deep of debt. I hate even having a tiny bit of debt. It feels awful.
  • Before you buy into ANYTHING , you must do your own research. Too much info online today that can prevent you or mitigate your chances of being ripped off.

I have been blessed to have family members who explained the differences in accreditation so I always look for regionally accreditation of colleges and universities when applying.

i go to a community college, and i've been screwed out of an entire semester because advisors lied to me. i know many people who have had the same experience. someone needs to hold schools accountable. thankfully the courses were only 1200, 3 courses, but it still sucks to lose that much time, effort, and money

"Degrees" from fake schools actually backfire on an applicant. Shows the employer that you have the mentality of quick fixes, poor judgment, without doing your homework, and therefore a major financial risk to the company. Would rather have an honest applicant with just a HS diploma.

These bastards got me too!! I found out that hard way when I enrolled in a local collage to continue my education, since my company pays for 100% of the cost. Fortunately, I was smart enough to pay off my student loan many years ago so I don’t have that burden to deal with, but I have 96 credits that are totally useless to me, and I’m going to be nearing 50 years old by the time I earn my bachelors degree!!

Most of these for profit schools are insanely overpriced. I checked out Phoenix to see how much it was, $400 a credit hour. My local community college charges $100. Most employees where I live won't even look at you if you go to Kaplan or Phoenix. I know many people who have struggled with it. PLus they were unable to transfer credits. It should be very easy to transfer credits if you earned them at a community college. I've NEVER had a problem.
