Budgies are native to Australia and can be seen in in rural areas in large flocks. While traveling through Victoria as a child I was looking out the window and saw this amazing bright green tree which stood our from all the others, I pointed it out to my Mum, Dad and siblings only to watch in awe as all the leaves flew away! It was a dead gum tree covered with our native green budgerigars my dad explained. I'm in my late 60s now and that memory is still vivid to this day. Later married with children of my own we had "Bluey" who was a great talker, I had mentioned my husband had developed a smokers cough, he denied it and I went on to say that even Bluey was now coughing at him. Next morning he went into the kitchen and Bluey started coughing then I heard "an you can shut up too"! Great memories and lovely video, TFS 💓🇦🇺

Feather duster budgies 😢 weak, can't fly and die young... and all because they are fancy in humans' eyes. Poor babies! 😔

Honestly, all these mutations are my favorite, though I do feel bad for the dust feathers, the fact their likely to die in a single year is so unsettling. I hope that mutation will find itself developing better over years. I like when budgies and birds in general have a variety. The Half Sider budgie is probably by far the most unique and amazing thing I’ve ever seen. It’s so easy to get a camera angle of just one side, and then expose the other in a separate shot.

Nice to see chimeras included, it is rare but happens with almost all organisms as a result of two different DNA merging, I've actually even seen a Madagascar hissing Cockroach chimera, one side was light brown and the other dark brown it was beautiful. Hermaphrodite is possible in chimera too because of the double DNA.
  • I had an albino budgie that came from one green series and one blue series budgie. That pairing also produced a yellowface type 2 budgie. They also never got that bright white ring around their eyes. I had them for 5 years and they had brown eyes the entire time. I tried to find budgies like that online and was pulling blanks. Years before that pair I had a blind budgie, called Blinky, that could fly about like a normal bird

Feather dusters is not intentionally bred, they appear very seldom in breeding work of show budgies, no one, including the breeder is happy when it occurs. Poor birds.

I just fell in love with the half sided ones...

The black face budgie's story is pretty sad. They are pretty inbred. The person that discovered them was selfish and didnt want others to own this budgie, and he wasnt even a profesional, he was just a backyard breeder. But one day a desease struck and killed all of the budgies. Now breeders are trying to breed the ones that remain and make them healty again. If you have a black face, alert a responsable breeder, your budgie can help save them, if it isnt related to the others. Great video, but i wished you sed the story of the blackface and how the long feathered budgie (forgot its name) is an unwanted trait and how the chimera budgie are conjoined twins.

Me and my sister had each a budgie when we were little but the cat wanted to hunt them all the time, so my parents gave them to our neighbor back then, who had a big room FULL of budgies. I was remembering that today. They were SO many, flying around and free, so our budgies must have been happier there :) My bird was yellow and green and my sister's was blue and white.
