Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
"There must be some kind of way out of here"
Said the joker to the thief
"There's too much confusion
I can't get no relief
Businessmen they drink my wine
Plowmen dig my earth
None will level on the line
Nobody offered his word"
Hey!

[Verse 2]
"No reason to get excited"
The thief, he kindly spoke
"There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke
But, uh, but you and I, we've been through that
And this is not our fate
So let us stop talkin' falsely now
The hour's getting late
Hey!

[Guitar Solo]

Hey!

[Verse 3]
All along the watchtower
Princes kept the view
While all the women came and went
Barefoot servants too
Well, uh, outside in the cold distance
A wildcat did growl
Two riders were approaching
And the wind began to howl
Hey!

[Outro]
All along the watchtower
All along the watchtower

Hendrix never died. Earth was just part of his tour.

Bob Dylan = lyrical genius Jimi Hendrix = musical genius This version of the song = immortal

Our time on this planet is precious. Any time spent listening to Jimi Hendrix is time well spent.

If you're ever feeling down remember we live in an age where this song is accessible in a second, for free, forever.

I will be 73 in May. As a young guy, I used to sit and listen to Cream and Hendrix with my mates most evenings. The songs are embedded in my brain. Eric Clapton and Jimi had great respect for each other as I have for both. The music lives on.

I’m only 23 but he was my favorite artist ever as a child. Thanks pops.

Bob Dylan himself said it after 1st hearing Jimi perform "All Along The Watchtower" - "It's Jimi's song now". Humble guy.

I'm convinced Jimi is actually a guitar

The Jimi Hendrix Experience are likely the greatest musical trio in history, they were: guitarist Jimi Hendrix, bassist Noel Redding, and drummer Mitch Mitchell. The world was a better place because of them.

Not many people know it, but Jimi Hendrix was perfectionist when it comes to this song. Studio people tried to rush him (because time and tape were both expensive) but story has it that he had over 50 takes on this song with just the guitar parts to make it absolutely perfect, the way he wanted it to be in his mind. Safe to say, you can hear it. Absolute perfection in every possible way.

Y’all’s are so hyped now, imagine how it sounded 50 years ago.
  • The best ever guitarist. My Mum saw him live in Dereham, Norfolk, England in the 60s. Clapton close second whom I saw at Earl's Court London with Phill Collins on drums in 1988. That was a concert I will never forget.

Bob Dylan loved this version of the song so much that he played the Jimi version since his death. Lots of people have written songs for others and you don't realize how often that actually happens. Jimi just so happened to be the man that was meant to record this song. It takes a really humble person to recognize things like this with their own song.
