Midlife Skater - Week 1: My Skateboarding Comeback After 28 Years!⚡️

Hey everyone, welcome to my channel, Midlife Skater! I’m Phillip, a 46-year-old beginner skateboarder on a journey to rediscover skateboarding after a 28-year break. This video is all about my first week back on the board, my progress, and what you can expect from this channel.

I got my first skateboard back in the late 80s and skated up until the late 90s. I was never the best skater, never learned to ollie, but I could get on the board and get across town with no problem!

I was inspired to pick up the board again seeing all of the skateparks at the playgrounds that I take my daughter to. My goal is to become a decent skater for an older dude and to get in shape and STAY in shape.

I plan to track my progression on the board as well as on the scale!

A big part of my come back involved imaging my self skateing when I was not skating . When you can picture yourself doing something it makes a big difference.

I am 45 years old. In February this year, I took up skateboarding again. I haven't skated for 30 years :) Now I'm practicing tre fip, I've almost learned it and I'm very happy. It's a fantastic sport! Have fun! Greetings from Hungary.

Hell yes man! Just got back on the board myself this year. I just turned 45 keep at it homie!
  • @jo-dl6mi
Bro, keep it up! I started up again a year ago after 27 years off the board. It's the best feeling and family vibes epic. Peace

Love it. Just turned 60 here been back at it for a week or so after 40 plus years. Survived my first slam on a small drop in, got back up and went right back to it. Nice to know I diddnt lose my skater determination after all these years. Keep it going!
  • I'm 50 and skating vert on weekends. The biggest obstacle for me was (1) weight and (2) knee pain. I had to lose about 30lbs to stop snapping decks and be able to get pop/height. As for knees, gentle cycling about 3 times a week helped get my knees back into shape. Keep it up!
  • Keep at it, mate. Smart move on the padding. The fact is, we fall harder and don't bounce as we get older, and skateboards are duplicitous beasts, ready to fling you off in a heartbeat.
  • Atta boy! Same story here, picked back up at 40 after 28 years exact, 45 now, started back in with a longboard. Then jumped on the rgular. Hit the skatepark random and havent looked back. We missed so much while we were busy!😢

Just started again a year and half ago at 43, now 45. Stopped 26 years before. I feel so much better physically and mentally. My balance and strength has just gotten to the right place, and I am making real progress trying and doing some things I never used too do. Manual, manual, manual, manual, etc ... further, around things, etc ... Manuling builds core strength and balance. I always did this coming back from injuries. This also builds your ability to hold and stick tricks. 👍

I got my first board after being off for about 12 years about a year ago. Its been tough getting back I to it dealing with job injuries but it still makes me happy. Keep pushing. 💪🏾
  • Wow. The backstory in the 80s reflects my own. I saw kids skating on a trip to Australia in 88 and came home with my own. Within a month all my friends had boards but no one knew about ollies let alone how. So we knelt on our boards and hill bombed everything… then a little in the 2000s when my brother picked it up, I still couldn’t do anything. Now over 40 I’m skating again… infinitely better than I was. Massive props for you taking the risk and looking for the freedom and fun of it. You’ll look back at this vid in a year and it will blow your mind!
  • Killer to see somebody else out there. Screw the gym do what you like doing and the fitness will follow.
  • @bonebap1096
Keep up the skate journey. You are doing good. Motivated me too. Also, I totally relate as I just got back on my board too. What makes me more happy is that my daughter likes to skate and she has been learning how to skate. Very rad. Yes, for all you say you are too old, you will be old. Get off your butt, get a board and just have fun and session. You won't look back.
  • 50 in couple of days....just got back on a board after 35 years...just like riding a bike 😊 collecting all my dream boards now...we were poor AF growing up 😢i come home from work and haul azz down the street every day...my neighbor's 💩 themselves 😅 subscribed🙏✌️♥️

My daughter is 4 years old. I got her a 7.2 epoxy resin 7 ply (not as sensitive to rain) with Venture 5.0 v-hollow, 80a soft bushings (sanded them down even more so she would turn with her 50lbs) and 54mm 80a filmer wheels. It’s low, light, soft and has an extended wheelbase for stability. I’m 40y old and just started again after 23 years. Same level as you. Cheers from Germany

  • @barnaclerusty
Power to you. I just bought new wheels and dialed on my board after 15 years. I forgot how fun and free it is just to cruz around or go down a hill. Nice Santa Cruz 👍
