Koe no Katachi is fantastic. A melancholic story of acceptance, an aesthetic piece of art. With its realistic characters and serious themes, it is definitely worth analyzing.

Apologies for the delay in delivering this video, it took me a lot of effort to tackle this analysis. There is just too much to talk about when it comes to this show and I didn't want to make an hour long video about all those details.

For anyone who liked the movie, I definitely recommend checking out the manga as well!

koe no katachi is not just about relationship, it also about friendship
  • Speaking as someone who has hearing loss, been made fun of for it and for using sign language when I was younger, and deals with anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts/tendencies, this movie hit so close to home. The way the creators dealt with such heavy situations such as bullying and suicide attempts was amazing. Personally I don't feel like they completely romanticized it (unlike other current shows/movies) and I really appreciate that. This movie has become one of my favorites as I have never ever been able to relate to a character so much. I cried so much when watching this and that rarely happens when I watch movies. And seeing Ishida learn sign language to be able to communicate with Shōko really moved me as I haven't met anyone who was willing to go to that extent to communicate with me. I've had 10 surgeries and while my hearing is slightly better than it was, I still have trouble with it and get frustrated with it. But this movie honestly made me feel a little better about it since it's an issue not many media companies address (at least that I've seen). They did a beautiful job with it and I plan on reading the manga and cosplaying Shōko when I get the money.
  • So, I'm back. Just finished the movie and the video. Great analysis as usual. It really is fascinating to see a channel this young with this high of quality. On the movie though, and this might sound silly but, it was particularly hard for me to watch this because it was like playing Katawa Shoujo all over again but this time I didn't have any control over what happened. Also, I can't even being to count the number of times I shouted at the screen, "Please for the love of God, hug her!". Seriously why did he never just hug her. Hugs help everything.

I thought the moon bit was her trying to say, "daisuke" or "suki" which means, "I really like you", but he misheard it as, "tsuki" which is moon.

Great video dude. The worst one to me is Kawai, she uses her cuteness and tears to turn on Ishida. The second time when she climbed on the guy who really doesn't fuck with her and cry. Pissed me off to a whole another level. Jeez

You can probably watch this entire movie without subtitles or even the audio and understand it fully. Another fantastic analysis, thanks for the video :D

Honestly, the ending scene made me cry so badly. XD It was just so beautiful and meaningful to me. Not gonna lie, this is probably one of my favourite anime movies right now. The characters were so accurate and I felt like I could seriously relate to the way they acted because to me it felt human since I thought of people who acted the same in my life.

    >"Won't listen to anyone until the end of the movie" >*End of movie* >Everyone's face is shown >His sister's face is still hidden What the hell?!
  • when he says, "will they become partners? That's for you to decide" and here I'm thinking, "becoming partners? hell they'll be the best couple ever in the history of anime" (I might have exaggerated)

I didn't watch the movie before because I already read the manga. After watching this video, I'm starting a marathon to watch all the movies I've skipped.

When I was in 2nd grade, there were two deaf brothers in my class. The first day they came, one of them taught me some basic sign languages and it was really cool. But I gradually felt a bit annoyed because they would randomly start speaking inaudible noises in the middle of class, received special treatment and leniency from the teachers, and their voices were really high pitched and was painful to my ears. Then I started imitating them and making fun of their voices (like what Ishida did). Thats as far as I went but I can relate to young Ishida in a particular way because I understand that when you're still that young, you just don't have a good grasp on reality.

"This one was a tough one to crack" The movie was detailed and in-depth indeed, and I had a hard time understanding small bits and details about it. Thanks for cracking this one! Now I can appreciate the story even more so.

"When nishimiyas right ear became completely unhearable" ...the ear shoya yanked the damn hearing aid out of her ear?

So I have read Koe no Katachi like 2 years ago and I cried while reading because it was really emotional and actually one of my favorite mangas. I was very happy when I heard about the announcement of the movie. I saw it last weekend and it didn't disappoint at all. Everything is good about the manga and the movie, I want to recomend it to everyone. Action stories are very nice but a bit of Slice of Life like this one are definitely needed in our lives because it makes us think about ourselves and our experiences as growing human beings. Might watch this again.

When you said, “Did they become partners? That’s up to you.” That’s like asking if I want to be happy or spiral into deep depression.
  • @pabli50
Nice analysis, i like the tone of your voice it suits even more the review.
  • @Imklipper
After seeing such a rich and amazing video summarizing this amazing movie truly shocked me by the amount of views. This deserves much more. Easily this is one of the best movies that came out recently, thanks for the analysis, it always makes it worth just seeing those lovely characters.
  • @kisame886
I've read the manga, and yes it may not as good as the manga due to the fact that they have to compressed 60 chapters into 2-hour movie but it's still REALLY GOOD. I highly reccommend this movie, but please DO NOT go with "This is going to be like Kimi no Nawa" perspective, they're completely different movie. And please do not over do it (I watched it 3 times, but it's worth it though...) Final Verdict : 8/10 (For those who've read the manga) 9/10 (For those who havent)
