At the age of 5, Dimash was accepted into the most distinguished music academy in his country. Now writing his Doctoral thesis for a PhD in Musicology/ Composing, received all his degrees with honors while simultaneously filling arenas and maintaining his performing career, a first! He has a bachelors degree in vocals, a master's degree in composition and is about to complete his PhD in musicology this year. One thing to be aware of.... Dimash has total vocal control of his breathing, vocal folds, larynx and body, in every possible way, with no "pushing" or "forcing." It's not difficult to hear why many, many people think that there are 4 or 5 people on stage singing the same song. Interestingly enough, Dimash's last name means "God given", or "gift from God."

He fights to perform live whenever he can. He works hard for his skill, no point wasting it on pre-recording! You're a Dear, it's okay to own it. 😂❤ Most of us are Dears from the moment we first heard him! Now... You want a long insane note it's "Sinful Passion", you want IMPOSSIBLE watch him do "Diva Dance" from The Fifth Element (the one where he's in white is the best). The New Wave international singing competition is held at Sochi, Russia. Dimash was a judge for this event and premiered 3 new songs including Stranger. Personally I can't think of anything more nerve wracking than looking across at the judges and knowing Dimash is amongst them as he has perfect pitch and can pick out every bum note. Although as we've just seen from his concert in Turkey it also means he can pick out the one amazing voice from the audience singing in front of him which lead to one young girl going from being an audience member to singing for Dimash on stage in 2 seconds flat! 🤣

Dimash and the composer of this song, Igor Krutoy (at the piano), often use archetypes in their music. This epic piece evokes the journey of soul (wandering in ancient times, haunted by memories, and lost loves ) as it finds itself in an expanded state of awareness (new ground, chance to know who I am, begin again). Hesitantly at first, he even stumbles a bit, but with growing confidence, Dimash takes us on a journey and with that last refrain, he totally owns this new ground. Like in many of his arrangements, Dimash incorporates sacred music traditions of different cultures and ages into something uniquely his own. The music of ancient cultures often used chants, overtone singing, and melismatic techniques to induce a hypnotic trance in the listener. Dimash is not only aware of the power of music to alter one’s state of consciousness, he wields this power masterfully, but always with great respect. His friend since his teenage years, Erlan Bekchurin, is a brilliant arranger and knows exactly what Dimash wants to accomplish. Together they create magic. Dimash insisted on the use of the kobyz, an instrument which was used in Kazakh shamanism to communicate with spirits, and it fits beautifully. He is so awesome, isn’t he? Stranger is one of my absolute favorite songs. I get goosebumps every time I hear it. I’m a real fan of movies that have such a mystical or oriental atmosphere. And it was such a great idea by Dimash to use the Kobysz for that. The kobyz is a very old two stringed Kazakh folk instrument and it’s wide spread among Kazakhs. The man who often is playing the kobyz in Dimash’s performance (also here in Stranger) is the best on this instrument and a good friend of Dimash. His name is Olzhas Qurmanbek. You often can hear this instrument when Dimash sings in his native tongue like Samaltau, Qairan Elim or Òmir Òter. He sang Stranger for the first time at New Wave in Sochi, Russia in 2021. This is an international competition for young artists, founded in 2002 by Igor Krutoy. Dimash sang here as a guest and was also a member of the jury. Igor Krutoy, like so many other masterpieces, wrote this song specifically for Dimash and his incredible vocal range (in this song alone he sings 5 octaves F1-F6 I think). And the last note he held for 20 seconds. The way he switchs so affortlessly between the different registers and octaves in one song is so mesmerizing and unbelievable. Igor Krutoy is a famous Russian-Ukrainian composer, producer and songwriter. He came out of retirement specifically to work with Dimash when he first heard him. True masterpieces were created. He writes songs that only Dimash could sing with his vocal range (no kidding), like Olimpico, Stranger or Ave Maria. You'll often see him accompanying Dimash on the piano. If Igor Krutoy is there, the song was also written by him. The two have no contract. Their cooperation is based more on mutual trust. It's more of a father-son relationship. Olimpico is another masterpiece that Igor Krutoy wrote especially for Dimash’s vocal skills. It was written for the 2nd European Games in Minsk, Belarus 2019. And that’s why the lyrics are also very motivating. This song and this performance is my absolute favourite🥰. I think this version is the best, because his performance is so intense and breathtaking. The light show, the background dancers. Everything. With this song in this version I have gasping breath all the time. The way he represents himself on stage, the hand movements. I think he has incredibly beautiful hands🤭(and apparently many cameramen think so too, since many of the camera shots during his performances very often only show his hands. Sometimes it seems as if he is conducting himself. This is really fascinating). And the facial expression, the look. There he looks so demanding and commanding😱 (I hope it‘s the right word-English is not my native language). There he is such a Beast😳! It’s absolutely stunning. Lol. New Wave is in Sochi, Russia. Its a week long competition show for young performers. This was opening day and Dimash was premiering his new song Stranger, that Igor Krutoy wrote (the bald piano man). And he's also one of the founding members of the New Wave competition show. Nothing wrong with being a fan boy or girl, especially towards someone with that amount of talent.

Most singers, especially in the US, their songs don't vary much from song to song. With Dimash, each and every song is unique . DonVon, you became a "Dear" quickly...................
