As an irresistible force of social and cultural change, Berry Gordy's legendary Motown made its mark not just on the music industry, but society at large, with a sound that has become one of the most significant musical accomplishments and stunning success stories of the 20th century. Diana Ross & the Supremes, Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, Stevie Wonder, the Temptations, the Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson & the Jackson 5, the Marvelettes, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Lionel Richie & the Commodores, Teena Marie, their music communicated and brought together a racially divided country and segregated society, around the world, touching all people of all ages and races.

Man what happened to music. This is pure gold.

Rick James doesn’t get enough recognition for the way he assembled these girls and for writing these songs like he did. He was one of the best songwriters ever step into the industry.
-
I'm a punk rocker and I still like this song!😊
-
This is my infant son’s favorite song. It’s the only one that gets him quiet. Thank you Rick James and the Mary Jane Girls 😭😂
-
One of the true classics from the incredible summer of 1985.

I was OBSESSED with this song as a kid. Always waiting with a blank tape…. but catching it in the middle, ending, dj said coming up so I recorded beginning of 8 other songs before it & giving up 🤬🤯 Young people have no idea the struggle 🤦🏼♀️

I was a young teenage boy when this song came out in the 80's. I'm 51 years old now, but still listening to some great 1980's jams. I miss those days.

White boy grew up in the NYC area in the 80s. My High School was black and Puerto Rican. Remember this song and that time. Wouldn't trade the experience for anything.

"Mother, what do we take?" "EVERYTHING!"

Rick James is one of the best singer ,writer, arranger, and performer ever in the music industry.

March, 2023, The Santa Monica Pier. I'm visiting from Florida with my wife and two young kids. A man about my age (59) is break dancing to this song. (Mostly pop and lock with some whole body spins around his right fist planted on the wooden platform on which he performed) I drop a $20 in his tip jar and tell him how much I love this music and his art form. Bless Rick James. 80s forever!

The audio engineering is just so good. Listen to that thick snare with that gorgeous reverb.
-
The lady with the beads is amazing. She is like a mix between an Egyptian queen and a warrior goddess.
-
That beat and rhythm.....You kids missed this shit..The 80s funk was the shit.
-
I keep telling my daughter, without the Mary Jane Girls there is no Beyonce, she won't believe me but what a group, the best girl band ever
-
Pretty girls, catchy tune, what's not to like??? How did we go from this to now???
-
Rick James was a genius indeed! Amazing song!
-
Loved that they gave the girls almost equal screen time. They were all great

I love this song and music video! If anyone needs an example of the most perfect 80s synth and imagery, I would suggest they watch this video. The girls are beautiful. I love their hair, makeup and outfits. Those satin sheets, the neon, awesome looking house, everything about this is so great. I was born is the early 70s, so had the great fortune of living through every year of the 80s. I miss that time, and feel like I didn't appreciate it as much as I should have at the time.

One of my fave songs written by Rick James ❤️❤️❤️
