The thermopneumatic plant is a stand-alone block that you can heat with torches on six sides, or fire underneath with observer triggering a dispenser with flint and steel (the plant will put the fire out), or vortex tunnels. The refinery is the multiblock with controller on the bottom and can be heated the same way.
