Recovery & Pathology Update: What Stage Is My Kidney Cancer?

Published 2024-06-30
We are Brian & Jessica, a married couple who started on a life-changing whole food, plant-based weight loss journey back in June 2018. In June 2022, our lives were flipped upside-down when Jessica was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer at age 36. Since then we welcomed our very first child via gestational carrier and bought a new house. In May 2024, Brian was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma at age 41. He had his left kidney removed and today he is sharing an update on his recovery and the pathology / staging of this cancer.

  • Renal Carcinoma survivor here, you got this! My cancer was removed 16 years ago. I too had that feeling that everything was going to be alright, thank god that feeling turned out to be true.

My dad had renal cancer - he had his right kidney removed February 2001, no chemo. He’s now 80 yrs old and doing wonderful.
  • As a nurse, it would an honor to have you as a patient. You are the people we do this work for 🎉🎉🎉
  • Now you are officially "two Krocks, three kidneys." My son was diagnosed with stage 3B RCC renal cell carcinoma at 31 during the pandemic. He had a radical nephrectomy like Brian. He took his doctors advice seriously, he tries to walk daily, for the most part eats well, gave up soda, high sodium everything, and doesn't go out to eat much anymore. I can't wait to follow along on your journey and try some of your delicious recipes. Wishing you a speedy recovery and a long and healthy life with your sweet wife and daughter, you got this Brian!

You and Jessica are shining examples of how love, fortitude and positivity see you through the most difficult of life's challenges. I have every confidence that both of you will be just fine and be around for a long time. My husband has been treated at Mayo-Rochester for the past three years and his stage 4 prostate cancer has been in remission for quite some time. His latest PSMA PET scan shows no signs of cancer! We are fortunate to have Mayo within a couple hours drive from us. We can't say enough good about them!
  • I am overwhelmed by what you and Jessica have endured these past couple of years. I sincerely hope that you both kick cancer’s a$$!! Much love . ❤️❤️

It hurts to see your sweet family hurting. We’ve been through similar things with both of us going through cancer treatments. We’ve been married 60 years so far, so there’s lots of hope and promise, the Lord be with you.
  • @Beverly54

I was diagnosed with RCC immediately after the birth of my first child, when I was 22. Still here at 56. I had an open radical nephrectomy. Tumor was 8cm by 10cm. It was huge and had completely taken over the whole kidney. Evidently it was fat and happy as they feed on blood and I had all that extra blood due to pregnancy. I'm shocked that there still isn't advanced treatment. What they told you is exactly what they told me so many years ago! i wish you the absolute best. I've moved on to my 3rd cancer. Breast cancer, stage 3c. Hopefully I'll live many years after this one, too.

My mom had kidney cancer when she was about 60. She did fine. The immunotherapy wasn't around back then. Lived to 97! May you do as well!
