At 20:05, I believe the cause of death says “Flux” which is dysentery (at least I think!). I really enjoy history and watching your visits to old cemeteries. 😊

The hard work and research you put into these videos is incredible, I know because I have registered over 7000 Union Civil War veterans in the Cincinnati area So I can appreciate what you do

Leo, you have chosen such a beautiful cemetery to visit. I am certainly glad that you did not walk up the nearly road to this cemetery. I noted that there are some very old grave markers. The coal mining statute is simply awesome. I don't believe you have seen anything like this statute in other cemeteries. Cute little lantern. Thanks for sharing this interesting story.

Leo, I didn’t know the reason for gravestones facing east. In southern Minnesota I’ve never seen marbles placed in a tombstone.

Thank you, Leo, for the walk thru of this beautiful and interesting cemetery. It must have been like the old wild west back in those days. Disease, accidents and murders in such a small area.

  • This documentation work is so important Leo, Please keep up the good work and Thank You. BTW, The logger made me smile, I started out in W.Va, then logged in MT and Western WA. I spent about 1/3 of my life in WV. 1/3 in MT and 1/3 in WA. All so different and all so much the same. For one reason. Mountain people.

Leo you really do need to get you a cemey bag. Sn old backpack eith a couple brushes, atleast one with soft bristles. A bottle of water, some kind of powder, not talc! Or snything that will damage the stone & i carry some small clippers to clear the stone & i always carry silk flowers to put on the graves. Just some dollar tree flowers, the biggest bunch i can find snd i cut each flower off & put them in s plastic bag. I usually carry a vouple plastic bags for trash and one for momentoes. These old family cemeteries in the mountains are beautiful! My family cemeteries are by mountains. I always wondered why they picked the beauty spots for burial grounds.
  • @musiknbooks

You have one of the very best YouTube channels! Thank you for posting! Frank Phillips is listed in my family tree (10th cousin). Brief Life History Deputy Frank Phillips was shot and killed while questioning two brothers who were drunk and causing a disturbance in front of a local business. When he asked the two what they were doing they became belligerent. A struggle ensued in which the two brothers drew weapons and shot Deputy Phillips. Despite being mortally wounded, he was able to return fire and seriously wounded one of the suspects. The other brother was taken into custody. Deputy Phillips was survived by his wife, child, mother, two brothers, and four half-sisters.
