Today’s Combat Story is near and dear to my heart for reasons I can’t share because they’re classified. We hear the firsthand account from one of the men involved in the brutal 13 hours of fighting in Benghazi in 2012, Kris “Tanto” Paronto, who would later co-author the book “13 Hours: The Inside Account of What Really Happened in Benghazi” and advise Director Michael Bay and the cast who created the movie of the same name.

If you want to learn more about Combat Story and hear stories from the military's elite and "The Real 13 Hours in Benghazi" topic you need to click: www.combatstory.com/

In today's episode, we are joined by Kris ‘Tanto’ Paronto, who is affectionately known in security contracting circles as a former Army Ranger from 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment and a CIA GRS operator in Benghazi who was portrayed in the Hollywood movie "13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi" (www.amazon.com/13-Hours-Soldiers-Benghazi-Blu-ray/….

In this video we cover the following subjects:

-13 Hours in Benghazi
-Combat Story
-Ranger Battalion Life
-Kris ‘Tanto’ Paronto

This is one of my favorite episodes. Time flew by as we touched on so many topics from the learnings Kris shared in two other books (The Patriot's Creed: Inspiration and Advice for Living a Heroic Life and The Ranger Way: Living the Code On and Off the Battlefield) to insight into what it meant to be a part of the CIA’s GRS or Global Response Staff (read this CIA Career page to hear how interesting this job is and trust me when I say these guys were great: www.cia.gov/careers/jobs/protective-agent/) to how it felt the moment he and a handful of selfless other men decided to defy direct orders from above and risk their lives for other Americans in Libya.

There’s ZERO politics in this episode. If you’re looking for that, you won’t find it here. This is all about what happened to the people on the ground at the time, which made me appreciate Kris and his perspective even more.

Since leaving the military and Agency, Kris has become a serial entrepreneur with a clothing line, vodka brand, podcast, shooting and medical training courses, and is now making his tactical programs more of an experience with E3 Firearms which goes beyond just hitting the range and is something that I think many of our listeners will want to be a part of.

I hope you appreciate this wide ranging, hilarious, and selfless Combat Story as much as I did.

  • I met Kris years ago when I was working as a designated defensive marksman for Triple Canopy during OIF. He was absolutely hilarious but also was a wealth of knowledge and he was humble and very friendly to top it all off. To be clear he wasn’t my personal friend but one of our other DDS’s had just finished 12 years in the 75th and they were close friends.
  • 13 hours is my favorite movie of all time. I've probably watched it 50 times and don't ever get tired of it.
  • @pwrplnt1975
We all know who failed these men, no politics necessary! Great Video!
  • How the hell does he only have 67.4K subscribers?! This is the BEST military/combat podcast I’ve ever listened to. The only close competition is Vigilance Elite and possibly Jocko.
  • I remember Tanto doing a commercial for sunglasses and always wondered what a little of his history was. This video more than covers any questions that I had. But I'd like to thank you both for your service. God bless you both and yours.
  • I'm not American, I have absolutely zero connection to the military and I dont particularly agree with a lot of US foreign policy but these podcasts are just really top quality. You have mastered the art of letting your guests speak which a lot of interviewers have never accomplished and your guests are varied with different stories. Great job Ryan
  • @gunsnsails
I and my wife went to see the movie. I was choked up a little here and there. My wife and I got married 6 months before I retired so she hadn't endured a deployment and didn't understand some of the lingo or tactics that were brought to light via Hollywood. I have a great memory of that movie night with her. I was selected to go through a GRS class only for it to be cut short by my first bout with covid. I'll never get that opportunity back. Tanto was a little of the driving force behind my decision to go that route coupled with guys I'd met downrange many years ago. Awesome awesome guys!

Of course I watched 13 hours 90382490238490328094 times and still love it, like the rest of you guys who posted here. If I could pick my own neighbours, "Tanto" would be on that list. I loved how calm, collected and cool his character was portrayed, and now listening to the real Tanto speak, I respect and love him even more. What you and your boys did, took more stones than any civilian could ever dream off having. Deepest respect from here and thank you for your bravery and without knowing you personal, a good and kind man.
  • Much respect brother, we need more of u guys in England especially for us veterans!!
  • Delta force operator Pat Savidge (SGM) should be next on your channel. One of the baddest most experienced operators out there.
  • My first time as a listener, great interview, very informative! I’ve been intrigued by the Benghazi story depicted in 13 Hours, which I’ve now seen 3 times, and the members of the GRS Team that were present there and this was a bonus to my research. Thanks to you and Kris!
  • Outstanding! You need to do about 3 interviews per week to keep me satisfied!😎. My son is in 5th Group and he said all of our special operations people integrate very well into complex missions because we have been at war for so long. He said GRS brings a special ability to the party and is highly valuable to the mission.
  • I like the fact that you can see each veteran's personality that you don't get to see on other interviews. I think what you are doing is memorializing the veterans of our generation. As well as your other colleagues on this platform. Thank you for this.
  • Thank God for our nation that we have real men like Kris and Ryan working for and risking their lives for us. A very humble thank you for your service from one grateful American.
  • @OvelNick
"... You gonna fight the holy war in shorts?" After reading his book, listening to the shoe recovery story w/ him and Shawn, and other interviews... That fits his vibe 100%.lmao
  • Of course he would say the Benghazi group was the best he worked with…. That was as historical of a gun fight and battle as Gettysburg….. the intensity was the same even though it was not the same amount of troops…. And to have anyone survive that is epic… everyone’s strength’s and weaknesses are measured and tested and if the outcome was different , there would be nobody to tell his side of the story as accurate and himself….. true fact
  • @C-24-Brandan
Another awesome guest with some incredible stories! You're absolutely Killin' It with exceptional guests, outstanding interviews & stories that everyone should hear and be aware of. Really excited to hear this one, thanks for putting out great content & educating all your subscribers on U.S Military History!
  • @rochelle2269
I’d love to have Tanto sign my book. 13 hours the movie was an excellent portrayal of the hell our boys went through over there blind. Without their country.
