Great dropper for hopper-dropper. Pine squirrel hunts the hogs!
  • I tie the same thing but I use some of the squirrel tail in a dubbing loop for the collar

What a killer fly pattern. Couldn’t agree more about Max, that dude knows how to catch fish.

Caught my first Farmington River (CT) trout on white version of this. Have it tied in black, white and olive now.
  • This pattern does really well on Great Lakes steelhead also

I always tie my squrreltails the other way around. If i keep them fairly short, i don't have any issues with wrapping aroung the hookbend. And i feel like the leech is drifting with the well marked squirrel fibers first/down rather than the leather part...So the fish might see the fibers first. Any thoughts, Charlie?
  • Sorry you dont love that blue background, sure makes it easier to see whats going on though!
