I remember... she’s right. Black djs would not play rap back in the day except the young ones. Thats how the change of the guard happened

I remember ordering 12 singles for our record store in Houston, Texas SoundWaves(look it up). This is when they used to mail you the list and you could call them and order all the titles old and new from the catalog. If I remember right I used to talk to Tom Silverman directly.

Who remembers "NYC Hottraxx" that use to come on TV, I think it was on channel 4 Friday or Saturday nights??? They were showing hip hop videos long before BET and MTV.

Melle mell talks about how groups like earth wind and fire and others use to look down on hip hop..its a well known fact that the bougie r&b and disco crowd hated on hip hop heads..funny thing is r&b groups turned hip hop later on in the 90s
  • She is talking about Hip Hop culture not being established by 1981...but what she really meat to say was RAP MUSIC.

Her perspective on the pre 80s climate of rap music & it's beginning the very real struggle artists & promoters, etc went through to get radio play & spark mainstream acceptance of Rap music is excellent content & I'm just a little over 3 mins into the interview. !!! 💯💪🏽💯 !!!
